This guy went down on Saturday. 9 year old who's dad owns the property next to the Tick Farm. This kid also killed a turkey with his youth bow a few weeks ago.

Nice one. That rack definitely has a lot of character. I would imagine he had some pretty distinct rubs with all those little stickers on his bases! You heading out this weekend Rafe?

I'm headed to the Tick Farm this evening and will be there through Tuesday. This is my annual 4-day-weekend-before-gun-season trip.

Not sure if any of you remember him or not but on the OLD Cafe (when it was on the MDC site) there was a fella named Flintknapper. I've stayed in touch with him and he'll be coming to the Tick Farm on Monday for a little while.

Awesome. Well good luck buddy. The misses and I are heading down to the farm this weekend after the one we call "canopener."

I remember flintnapper. Is he still stictly traditional? I think it is awesome the way he goes after them, maybe someday, but I have a hard enough time right now with technology!!!

He has a couple longbows that he & some friends have made. He also still makes a lot of his own arrows & points. Sometimes he'll use a Zwickey head, but usually only stone points and limits his shots to within 20 yards. I think he's taken 2 deer this season already. He uses a shotgun for turkey, though. He also ties his own flies and had a great day on the Sac River last weekend with lots of bass, several crappie, and a walleye. He's really knowledgeable on the mushrooms, too, and manages to find different species throughout the year. Last weekend after fishing the Sac, he filled a Wal-Mart bag with boletes.

Flintknapper hung out at the cabin for a few hours. He's a good guy. I enjoyed the visit. I smoked some chicken thighs and made a few other sides. He brought me a quart of venison stew that he & Mrs. Flintknapper canned. I had it for supper that night and it hit the spot.
