Re: Has anyone used a gun tag yet?
Not me. I took the misses out this past weekend as well, but she was wanting to use the bow. We has a short tined 10 pointer at 30 yards and I thought she was going to get a chance to smack him, but then he realized something wasn't quite right and got out of dodge. We did see 2 other bucks that appeared to be pretty nice, but never coudl get a good enough look at them, and they never presented a shot anyways. Of course we had a spike, a fork, and a 3 pointer all come by within easy bow range. That's jsut how it works. Heading back out this weekend.

No on the gun tag. 'Have only seen a spike that was not a legal shooter, fugging antler restrictions..

Didn't see any legal shooters but we had good movement. Seasons over for me due to family obligations.

I killed a avg doe early Saturday. The small bucks were chasing does all over the creek bottom I was at. I could have filled my other tag but decided to just watch and maybe the big one I had seen on Friday would come by. He didnt. Over the course of Wed. afternoon until Sunday afternoon, I did get to see a stupid little forked horn about 10 times. Only saw him with a couple of days with does. I kind of developed a personal relationship with him over the course of time spent in the wood.

Re: Has anyone used a gun tag yet?
My brother got a decent 9-point buck on the afternoon of opening day (ironically on my birthday) - we were returning to our stands after a brief midday break and he got it right on the deer trail leading to his stand. I was about 40-60 yards away when he shot it and I heard it let out a big bellow. He got a really good hit on it and it only went about 10 yards or so. I told him that he stole my birthday present; he claims it was also a present for me since it validates that my property is a haven for good bucks. I dunno if that is a fair tradeoff or not

Of course, he had me help him drag it out the 3/4 mile so it ruined most of my afternoon hunt. I did get back in the stand late afternoon and could have shot a 6-point buck about 30 yards from my stand but it didn't meet the antler restrictions.
I did get to watch him make a scrape right where I had put a trail of doe esterous.
Sunday morning I saw some deer movement but too far in the thick bruish to shoot. Sunday afternoon I got to watch a racoon spazz out about 30 yards from my stand after sniffing something on the ground (think it may be the doe esterous I laid out on the trail). He kept sniffing it then running around in circles while grunting and standing on his hind legs, then laying on his back having seizures with his paws in the air. He would then repeat. I've never seen anything like it.
I plan to get back out there this weekend.

That`s definitely a good one. The neck looks enormous.
One day, long, long ago, there lived a woman who did not whine, nag, or bitch.
But it was a long time ago, and it was just that one day.

I've killed my share of bucks, but that one definitely was nice. The brown tines weres pretty large and had lots of embedded shavings from all the saplings he shredded. He also had that characteristic squared off skull of those larger brutes.
Didn't see much buck action up there this weekend, probably because of the warmer weather and the full moon which allows them to move at night.

Shot a good sized doe last saturday morning. Now I can make me some summer sausage. Seen a real nice 8 point on Wednesday but to much crap between him and me to get a shot.

Re: Has anyone used a gun tag yet?
Congrats on the buck.
I went up to KirksvilleFriday afternoon, and by Saturday at 9:30 had killed two does and a good 11pt buck. I'm not 100% that I believe the score, but came up with 149-2/8. He's non-typical enough that I should have someone else score it, net is 132 without common base, with common base measured as a kicker he'd be lucky to net 120". Narrow rack 13-4/8 inside spread, but nice tines, 5-6/8 and 5-7/8 bases. All three deer were taken between 240-290yrds with the .257 Roberts. Great weekend.
