So, what are you saying there old wise one? Missing by an inch is missing, but I'll put my deer whacking ability up against just about anyone.

If I don't shoot at a walking deer, the scapula is not even an issue. That was the mistake I made. I hit right where I was aiming you can rest assured.

Oh, and I just like the looks of those heads. So, I am going to try them.

I've been fairly successful at it thus far.

No I`m saying that from everything I have read (and no I don`t believe everything I read on the internet) the Silver Flames are built like a tank, and sharper than a scalpel. Of course they should be at $30 each. However if JT, and SAMCRO, say try the Razortricks then that is what I would shoot. I`m guessing the shoulder blade will no longer be a problem with that Elite anyway.

170: Like I said, I did the same thing on a 6 month old deer shooting 76 pounds, 2315s, and Tri-loc 125s. I am convinced there is one single point on that shoulder that no head will penetrate. I've shoulder shot a few deer with Spitfires and the results have been good. But, this years deer left me with a very sick feeling inside (and, not a lot of confidence in my equipment). 140" deer, especially 8-pointers, aren't behind every tree.

Oh, and I've read some pretty good reviews on the T-locks. Even after MoBlower made suggestions on all of these accessories, I took a lot of time in investigating them. I'm pretty damn analytical. Oh, and chit has to look good. That is why I had to dress up that AWAC looking B-stinger stabilizer.

I never researched the Silver Flames because there is no way I`m paying $30 for a broadhead. Unless it`s a new Titanium Rage

There may be a spot like that on the shoulder, PS, but I`d bet borrowed money that SAMCRO`s rig will put a broadhead through it, and into the vitals.

Interestingly enough, I know a guy that hit a 150" 10-pointer in the shoulder this year shooting a .243. Never found the deer. It ran off carrying it's shoulder. In the lower shoulder area, even if you pass thru 4-5" of heavy shoulder, you still have to pass through ribs two and two layers of hide. Of course, that is on a low shoulder hit. But, I can see guys punching through it and never getting into the ribs.

Like Samcro said, you have 8-10" of kill zone behind it. My last several kills have hugged that shoulder too tight maybe. I need to start aiming back 3-4" of it maybe.

But, one thing is certain with this new setup. I'm going to be shooting modern chit that is state of the art. I'm kind of excited about it.

Looks to me like there would be more forgiving b-heads to shoot than teminal t's, but good luck either way.

Look at G-5 strykers or montecs while you're at it.

“Forgiving Broadheads”…is there such a thing…after all these are not prehistoric times. On the other hand out-of-tune is out-of-tune and shit quality is shit quality…no matter what the arrow looks like in flight.

When the XForce first hit the streets all the yah-hoos on AT claimed, “no way a fixed braodhead would fly/tune at those speeds”. It was/is so readily stated many of dumbchits still say/believe it today.

Computer aided modeling, design, simulation and machining is one of the single biggest and most overlooked advancements the archery industry has ever seen. Compared to the days of yesteryear, today’s design/manufacturing quality is near perfection…comparatively speaking of course.

During our visit to Cracker’s shop this summer he spoke for a good hour on how computer aided manufacturing process have revolutionized the industry. He claimed the ability to model, simulate and tweak, to three/four decimal place accuracy, without cutting metal is likely the biggest reasons why we are now shooting bows never thought to be possible, let alone shootable.

I’m shooting just a hair under 340fps and I have not found a quality broadhead that will not fly. That said, my shit is tuned to perfection and I don’t shoot Muzzy’s.

Toby: I'm not so sure the issue here is tunability. I am absolutely anal about the ability of my bow to be properly timed and tuned to shoot bullet holes through paper. What I believe is the issue these days with a lot of people shooting expandable broadheads is that persons inability to shoot a more radical bow with proper grip and follow through. Folks compensate with what Dave calls a "forgivable" broadhead. If you torque the grip, arrow flight problems will be far more pronounced with fixed-blade heads. I generally have pretty good form. But, from time to time, I will drop the bow arm or torque the grip. Heck, my field points will fly 3-4" left when I do that. I haven't shot a fixed-blade head in years. But, I can imagine the arrow's point of impact would be far worse than that. One thing I am looking forward to is shooting a longer A to A bow. They are a bit more forgiving on improper form.

Fact that samcro was even mentioned in the same sentence as TTTN is laughable!

Very true. I’m the same way. I could have added a comment about “proper shooting form” in my first paragraph but I didn’t because only a guy who knows what proper form is, or to a higher degree, a guy who can recognize issues with his own form, knows what the hell you’re talking about.

Just as you describe…about 5-6yrs ago, as I increased the speed of my last Mathews to the 300fps mark I had to switch to mechanicals. With fixed blades the slightest damned little thing would induce a “flyer”. I was OK in the backyard but on stand…I couldn’t risk it.

Fast forward to today…just as you spoke of a longer axle being more forgiving, I was referring to modern day engineering being just as forgiving. Surely I’ve learned a bit along the way but I shoot my current XForce better than any bow I have ever owned…including the 42” AtoA, 7-3/4” brace, round wheeled bows of the early 90’s. Not to mention every arrow I build with every broadhead I spin on...spin out to perfection and weigh within grains of each other. All this with half the effort it took to get my Mathews even close to tolerable at 300fps.

I'll be anxious to get one of these highly-engineered and improved bows of which you speak in my hands in the very near future. I may even kill something with it this year.

Congrats on the win, 2tall.

I spent maybe 4 or 5 hours in the field with deer on my mind this season. I popped one doe with my Chinese contraption, just took one shot. I am looking forward to Spring Turkey and a lot more fishing this year.
