youth season?

Post by mnkns » July 9th, 2004, 1:18 am

I'm to lazy to do a search so here is the question. Are kids required to shoot bucks with at least 4 points on one side in restricted areas during youth season also? Thanks in advance.

For the 2004 archery and firearms deer hunting seasons, antler-point restrictions will be in effect in the 29 counties shown on the map. In those counties, only bucks that have at least four antler points on one side of their rack may be taken.

This restriction applies to all persons hunting in the designated counties, except for youths hunting during the two-day youth portion of the firearms season.

OK, did anyone else go to a meeting? Everyone in the room applauded when one of the first speakers suggested that no matter what "option" was chosen that the kids not be subject to the restrictions. MDC said they had heard that a lot and did not intend to restrict the youth. Now they decide not to restrict the youth for two days. Wooopty freeking doo doo. I think that 175 degree turn is a bunch of crap. Curious what others think on this.

Seems about right to me....has there ever been special regulations for youth during the regular season? Why would you want the youth to have it easier during the regular season? If it's to encourage hunters, etc., then you should loosen up the regs for all "beginning" hunters, not just youth.

I think it's right to have less restrictions during the youth season, but everyone should follow the same regulations during the regular season.

I can picture the dumbfounded look on my 11 year old nephew if I was to say on his youth hunt "Caint shoot that one boy, it only has 3pts on each antler"...

BB - You been doing some post padding? I just noticed your post #'s. Popcorn bidness must be booming!! Image

I'm wondering how these new regs are going to effect hunting...especially in northern counties where there's a lot of hunting open fields and long distance shots. Can everyone tell at 250 yards that the deer has 4 points on one side that are at least 1" long?

Yeah, I got that part .... it's brown it's down. Image I'm curiuos about the people that normally hunt large, open fields. Can you tell a 3/4" point from a 1" or 1.5" point at 200+ yards?

PS - You shouldn't have any problems ID'ing deer...after all, you don't put anything in the HFA less than 10 points. Besides the HFA isn't even 200 yards across....talk about shooting fish in a barrel!
