Thanks Craig. I was excited as heck right up unto the point my brother picked up the rack and said, "Nice 8 pointer". I kept telling him that I hoped it was the 10, but I wasn't sure. After we put it in the truck, I was still pretty dang happy to have killed him. But, I was thinking he was that 130" 10 pointer. He saw the 10 pointer yesterday and had another nice 8 pointer bed down 50 yards from him. Congrats Shawn. Third smallest? That is a fine deer. e-mail me the picture. Did your daughter kill a good deer this year? Craig, have you seen much?

That is a nice deer Shawn. I could do without the beard though. Have I ever told you about mine and Shawn's days in college? I spent the best part of 8 weeks giving that guy woman advice. It must have worked because he married her. He always tried to give me advice, but as always, I never listened. Shawn, I could do without the beard. I am certain Kim could do without it too.

PS, Shawn told me you were a peachfuzz guy and that you were jealous of his beard. This can't be true can it? I wonder if he thought this was a 12 pointer? It happens you know.

Image Image Yeah, it happens.

BTW, Shawn had more flowerdy shorts than you can imagine. Drove a little MG convertible with Pingy on the license plates. I will give him this much, he was a well respected fellow. The women loved that pretty boy son of a femaledog. While that dude was wowing the hottest gal on campus, I was trying to wow all of the second and third hottest chicks. He never ran with the likes of me, Arafat, COrr, Steve Jones, Hathaway, Darrel Beck, Roy, Robert Hollis, and others on weekends for fear of losing his life due to unknown circumstances. No, true story is Shawn is one of the better persons you could ever meet and know in your life. He and I were roommates in college. He is the type of fellow that would put you before himself. He deserves to kill a deer like that even if it is a sammich buck.

The deer beard is gone boys. Since I got the deer, I am back to the gotee. Taking that woman I married this weekend. This is her first deer hunt and we are both looking forward to it. Hopefully, I will have pictures to post. As for my daughter's deer, this is her third as Craig said. She has a solid 125" on the wall and now a nice basket racked 9. Not bad for a 13 year old girl.

BTW, you ready for this counts, her first one was a button buck....and I couldn't be prouder. But it was her first deer and she was 10..... I left it up to her the years after that, just like I will my wife. Whatever deer is big enough for them as long as it is legal, I am happy for them. My daughter learned the value of that last year by letting a small buck pass and about 40 does, she ate tag stew for the first time....it was a good experience.

The story with my buck. 9am Monday morning, two hot does, four crazy shooters running around in CRP field. One 12 pointer about 150+" that was too far to shoot. And one brute (close to 170")that was running BOTH of the does at the same time. He and the does ran right under my stand (one yard or less), but at full speed. I tried everything but jumping on him to get him to stop for a shot, while I was at full draw. He never slowed.....

Then I saw a 120+" 10 pointer at about 70 yards, but he headed into the osage orange patch behind me. The grunting stopped, so I started grunting hoping to call one of the bucks back (hoping they had lost the doe momentarily). I looked up and coming down the hill toward me is the one I shot. I had a live decoy Image in small forkhorn that showed up under my stand EVERYTIME I grunted...it was great to watch the confusion on that young deer's face. But this time it helped, that big ten pointer saw him and came in bristled up. I double lunged him at 20 yards and he whirled and went down less than 50 yards later. I sat in the tree for about 10 minutes anyway...just to make sure I wouldn't fall out Image

A day like that is rare. I would cherish it even if I never got a shot. The icing on the cake is the deer, but even better is my daughter got one two days before that. I am very proud of her.

Who in the world are you talking about goof? Now I am nervous....you gotta want something. Yes, I will take you fishing. No, I wont come over on Saturday and drag your deer out.

The part of running with you guys...true, it scared me...it scared all of us.

Wouldn't trade those days for nothing....

And she still is the hottest chick on campus

I'll never forget the night Hathaway and I trolled underneath the college and into the girls dorms from those tunnels. Man he thought that was the greatest. Kim's sister Laurie invited us up into their dorm once we got in. Hathaway thought it was so cool that he had to go back an hour later. The next morning, his academic career was ky-boshed. I'm glad I didn't go back. Some of those gals didn't take so kindly to a fellow sneaking through the halls trying to catch a peek I don't guess.

Shawn: Good story...Good buck...Good Luck this weekend Image.

PS: I really like your buck too. I am not into all the nontypical racks and your typical racked buck looks mighty fine to me Image.

Smith has straightened me out on all issues concerning you fellas via a registered PM. I retract all previous statements concerning your groups deer hunting prowess. I will make a concerted effort to not step out of line again. Call your lawyers and get them out of my donkey. As per our signed agreement, I will no longer make mention of these issues on this public forum.
