Deer Sign ?

Post by Triton X2 » November 19th, 2004, 10:43 am

I went up north of Centralia to deer hunt this past weekend. Got up there on Wednesday and scouted on Thursday and Friday before the season....I was really expecting to see lots of sign (rubs and scrapes)but there was almost no recent sign. I know a number of you are from up around that area of Columbia and was just wondering what about your finding sign....There was quite a bit of corn still in the fields and some beans. In years past, there has been a lot of sign, but just wondering if anyone else was seeing the same thing...Saw very few bucks chasing does either...

We had a lil chasin a while back (late October) but it's been pretty quiet since.
I was drunk the day my momma got outta prison.

I was hunting up in Marion County and there was lots of standing corn and soy beans. The rain has prevented the farmers from getting the crops out. Lots of sign and most of it seemed very recent. I only saw 2 deer and didn't get any shots. I suspect the deer were real nocturnal where I was hunting as it was used for the youth hunt for the first time since I have been hunting there. I can't go hunting this weekend, but hope to get out Monday/Tuesday.

The reason I was asking was that in years past there has been all kinds of sign, but this year it seemed like it was a week or so old....I was just wondering why there was so little recent sign. Any ideas? I did manage to kill a couple but nothing like I almost got last year...Notice I said almost got....I hit a huge buck last year and we tracked him for nearly a mile or so and out in the middle of a bean field we lost all sign...I talked to a guy this year and asked him if anyone has seen the deer and he said(making a long story short) a guy supposedly found it dead about a quarter of a mile from where we has lost it....I'm thinking they picked it up before we got to that place....This guy said he would try to get pics from the other guy and send it to me...He asked me if I could remember the rack. This old boy was really a horse and I said I sure could...You dont see one like this very often...Anywhoo, Im out of here...

We hunted a farm 20 minutes north of Columbia on Sunday. I saw 2 bucks chasing deer, one was the 8 I got. There were fresh rubs all over the farm.
