Product you need to try

Post by Rafe Hollister » November 29th, 2004, 5:55 pm

Have you ever been walking through your hunting ground and seen a depression in the leaves or grass where a deer had bedded down and wondered how long ago did that deer leave? I do this all the time. Did you spook the deer or was it long gone hours ago? You can't really tell for sure. How do you correct this conundrum? With an infrared thermometer from Raytek. Simply point and shoot at the bed and compare the temperature to the surrounding ground temperature to get a rough idea of how recently the bed was used.

You could spend $79 - $99 for the Raytek Minitemp, OR, you can try to find a creative way of getting your company to pay for it. If you work in a lab, tell the boss you need it to determine if the reaction is exothermic while standing at a safe distance. If you're in maintenance, tell the building superintendent that you need it to check the temperatures of water pipes before touching them. Be creative!! Or you can be like me and win them as a door prize when you go to society meetings at the Lake.

You could just put your hand in the bed to see if it's still warm. Save yourself a little money, I always bite down on a deer pill when I find them to see If it is fresh, and see if I can taste what they've been feeding on ! Image Image
Wishing I could quit my job, and hunt and fish all day long !!!!

You can always smell the bed for freshness. It's easy to tell if it's a buck's bed that way, too.
