Shed hunting
Re: Shed hunting
Gogop showed me one last month when he was over here for a managed deer hunt.
If you ask me it just looks like an overgrown snipe trap with barbed wire at the top. - would be easy to make.

Re: Shed hunting
Do you lure the deer to it? Or do you set it up on a well used trail?

Counts, these dudes come up with some creative stuff to make those traps. Best thing to do is get a pvc corn feeder made. Then, make some contraption with chicken wire that surrounds where the food comes out. But, you need to have it where the deer can get his head down there. I am gonna buy some feeders for the HFA. It is gonna be my off season hobby.

That sounds like wildlife torture. I can in no way endorse the use of such equipment.
Re: Shed hunting
At Tyson Research Center, we used to trap and tag deer in those cages. I wonder if thay still do that out there?

I've trapped them with the nets and a rocket launcher. Cool as heck until they start bawling.

Re: Shed hunting
It was far more exciting than hunting ever could be. We trapped 4. Then, we had to draw blood and do a sonogram to see if they had fawns.

Re: Shed hunting
Here's one I made. It's just chicken wire and a few boards against a downed tree, with drywall screws holding it all in place. (Plus 50 pounds of shelled corn).

Edit---To answer the question I saw, both traps I put out are in travel areas where deer normally go. I try to conform to their habits, rather than try to change them.

Re: Shed hunting
thanks GoGop, I may have to try putting 1 of those up at the farm. Have you tried them before and do they work?

No, Kreskin, he just makes these ridiculous looking contraptions totally for the hell of it.

Look into my good eye

These are the first ones I've made, but I have friends who have done it with good success.
