Non-resident info, New to dis hyar place

Post by TomBow » January 7th, 2005, 5:43 pm

Howdy there! YES! I have invaded another website to show how much I don't know about bows and bowhunting. My name is TomBow (pretty ambitious, huh?) and you may have already guessed, I'm a bowhunting fool. (Some may question the bowhunting part.....)
Anyways, I've been reading the tomfoolery that goes on around hyar and figured I'd try and join in.
I live in Minnesota, been chasing pheasants, ducks and squirrels in Iowa, deer in Minnesota and Wisconsin for about 25+ years (had to take Hunter's Safety before they'd let me hunt at 12 y.o., can't imagine why?!) Not tryin' to cause trouble, but.....A friend of mine are looking into doing some hunting out-of-MN this year and I'm checkin' it all out. Got a question fer ye. How's the bowhunting pressure on public land in MO? I are an avid Turkey chaser also and a combo deer and turkey hunt might just tweak my feeble mind too much...but I'd be willing to put it to the test!
Me and my buddy aren't swimming in cash so a Big dollar fully guided extravaganza of dimwitted 400-class typicals just ain't in the cards so we are looking to Do-it-yerself,err, ourselves.

As I said, I are a Non-resident of MO so I'll understand if the first few comments concern my upbringing, intelligence, or other personal details. Just looking for a bit of information if you'd be willing to help a bow-brudder out. Thanks and best of luck!
Cheers! Image Image

Public land inMO is all over, and the out of state tags are cheap. If you are just looking into any deer, not only trophy's you might look into the Corps of Engineers land around Truman Lake, thousands of acres of public land, but not the best trophy potential.

North of the MO river is where the better trophy areas are, and still, before the gun season, there are lots of public hunting areas, and the hunting pressure is not bad if you don't mind finding secluded spots.

Be careful of the rules and reg.s in MO, there are sections where a 4 point per side rule is enforced.

I hear tell of some 160" bucks in a high-fenced area outside Columbia, MO. The fella that runs the place will let you shoot geese off the marsh, and it's just crawling with bobcats.

Check out a place called Swan Lake in Chariton County. Great public hunting there. Should be able to poke ya one in no time flat there.
How would you like a round house kick to the face while I'm wearing these bad boys?

But it was a long time ago, and it was just that one day.

170: Keith and Robin will never stand for my hunting over there around your hangouts. They know I'll accidentally kill something. I'll pay you cash money for a weeks worth of hunting in November and I promise not to shoot anything under 130". Heck, we can even film for one another. We can call our new company BBKA (Big Buck Killers Anonymous). We'll kill them and never give them a face or name. Kindof add to the suspense. Like the original bandmembers of KISS. PS Image

If things go well we hope to have a second camera for next year. We will be counting on you BBKA guys to do your thing for us. 170 & PS would make a hell of a Dream Season team. You two should apply next year.

Thanks for the info. I am aware of the 4-point rule now in effect in 29 counties(?). My buddy, Glen, is more of a trophy guy than I am but I AM in a quest to put one on the wall. I have the wall but need the "filler". High-fenced isn't our cup of tea, err, glass o' brew but thanks anyway.
We've got fairly good hunting here in MN but public land gets pounded and no antler restrictions means brown is down. Just wanted to know if it was the same in MO.
Thanks again.

PS,

That would be a cool idea. We could wear camo masks, and never take them off. Which in my case would probably be beneficial to DVD sales.
