This is going to sound, well, over confident, but I have no plans to do a full shoulder mount. I'm only planning on having a couple shoulder mounts in my lifetime, and honestly, I want something bigger.

At first it was a given to have the 10 mounted, but the neck shot and mess it made put a hold on that. Then I shot the 9 and thought, I have one bigger to mount first, but the more I think about it, I'm still young (<30)and plan on killing bigger bucks. Right now they sit on a desk in a back room collecting dust. I might put them on a plaque or something. I always plan on killing a bigger one at the begining of each season, hasn't happend yet, but it will.

I'm proud of that 9 though, he was the stud of the area (Jackson co)and I finally got an arrow in him at one of his scrapes 18yd shot. I had been within 15yds of him two different times before the day I shot him. I passed on 5- 8pts after I saw that 9 for the first time.

The 10 was dumb luck (east of Kirksville 2000 season). A buddy shot a 120" 8pt oppening morning, I sat in his stand at 12:00, by 1:45 I had shot 2 does and that guy. Both were extremely big boddied deer.

Gotcha, I have no limit on mounts in a lifetime. If I run out of room ( that would be a good problem to have ). I will start moving some down in the basement. Why may I ask ?

My uncle has about 10 deer mounts. Any 8pt will do, and he had them everywhere. I love shoulder mounts, but it is over kill and looks tacky. I don't plan on missing a deer season anytime in the next few decades, so I feel I can be choosey. If I never kill a bigger one, I can fall back on the ones that I have.

Also I'm so tight with money, spending it is like breaking my own bones. Besides I could put that $ into a nice rifle or bow, which I'm too cheap to go for, but plan on anyway.

Clear as mud?

Another excuse for not mounting the 9 was he had a horse head that dwarfed the rack, it was an old scarred up buck, kind of an ugly head.

Dave-t: The least you could do would be to put them on a plaque. I have 2 mounted and probably 7 or 8 more on plaques. It really looks cool to walk into a room and see a bunch of Image hanging. I'm not mounting my gunkill from this year, but he would look dang good. I keep telling myself that my next deer mounted will have to score 160". But, I was seriously considering putting my gunkill on the wall. PS

Thanks PS, I didn't see your post. Over 150 net, it'll be on the wall.

Do you guys enter racks into MO Big Bucks or P&Y? I know of more qualifying bucks that aren't entered than are.

And yes, at some point they will be on a plaque. I think walking into a room full of 130-140 class racks on plaques would be impressive, and then have the 150+ bucks shoulder mounted.

Dave-t: I will enter a deer in Show-me Big Bucks if it scores over 140". I will enter it in ABBM if it scores over 125". I have yet to enter one in P&Y. But, if you have the scoresheet, then it really makes no difference where you enter them. Some are gonna call you pompous, etc... for even having the animal scored. Some will really look down on you for entering it into a club of sorts. Me, I don't really give a rats donkey one way or the other what folks think until they start making fun of my sammiches.

Hobie, if the left and right sides of that rack matched, he would be a high 150-class deer. I would have probably found a cape for him then. Man, when I cut his head off, I had to drag him into the creek and then I still couldn't handle it. I lost my knife, and there was no way I was gonna meddle around looking for it in that mess.

My bucks are not true sammiches. They are submarine sammiches. Image
