We Passed

Post by Keith@AimLow » January 24th, 2005, 2:10 pm

The Aim Low team successfully earned MDC Bowhunter Safety Certificates this past weekend. No more careless falls from trees, unprepared backpacks, and questionable choices in the woods for us.

All kidding aside, the course was very elementary for experienced bowhunters but equally as informative and useful for kids and novice bowhunters. My hats off to Don Roper, Jan Morris, and the other instructors for making the material tolerable for everyone. I recommend any parents introducing the sport their youngster to take this free course together.

Did you teach the portion on unprepared backpacks? BTW, I was thinking about this very issue upon talking with you. It could be that in the future, much like the hunter safety course, this class will be required for bowhunters (especially out of staters). I had to take my initial course because I was going to Colorado to hunt. A few years later, MO required the course.

It is a requirement to hunt some of the suburban areas we have permission to hunt and also required by some states before purchasing a non-resident hunting license.

PS,

It wouldn't suprise me if the course became a requirement in the near future. There was a lot of information covered that is useful to bowhunters just getting started. Don Roper is a good speaker. He is very knowledgeable and interesting to listen too. He is great with kids too.

Don has killed some big bucks on an area that I would say is one of the most difficult areas to hunt in this state. That says something for his abilities to kill big bucks. Too bad they are trying to ruin the area now. I have met and talked to him 2 or 3 times at the classic, and he is a very humble fellow. His wife is a classy lady as well. In fact, she is the classiclady, or used to be anyway.

Tigerhazed...I'm not sure about that but I will check.

PS,
Don is a very humble man and will contribute most of his accomplishments to luck and just flat spending ungodly hours in a treestand.

Where did you take the course? When I called the MDC about this course a few months ago they had no clue where I could take one.
