Re: Uh-oh...
Well, I have a change of plans also.... I'm still going fishing but will stay closer to home and fish here at the Rock. Maybe go west and hit some of the upper lake for some new scenery. Less traffic and WAY less miles.
Did anybody hear from Ack ??

Re: Uh-oh...
Fishing stories and manly converstaion at the Wagon Wheel is gonna be kinda scarce this morning, looks like. Ron & Rick may be the only ones on the water. Living close has its advantages. If they went, here's hoping they catch many crappie, but leave the walleye pot intact.
Conditions are not so bad here in Polk County, but there is a fine mist, almost like fog, in the air. Perfect for making black ice. Stayin in today was probably a very good decision. TR....Ack checked in last night and cancelled early. I think they had some really nasty stuff out his way.
Guess we can start a new string to schedule the next trip.

Marty - I bet I know where you're thinking of going. When I looked at it the other day, the water there was still pretty stained from the rains. That's gotta be a good thing, as most of Tablerock is 'way too clear now. I don't like being able to see how many turns are in the tie-on knot when a lure is 6' under water!
If you go today, give me a report.

Re: Uh-oh...
Something good came out of this after all. Got a coyote calling CD in the mail yesterday, accompanied by a lot of hype about how good the caller is, he's killed zillions of coyotes using these calling sequences, yaddah, yaddah, yaddah....I've heard most of these same claims before for tapes or cd burned at home from regular cassette tapes.
I got out the ol' calling gear, put in the CD and sat back to hear for myself....I do believe I got a winner here. The main problem with tapes and most CD's is a lot of hiss, snapping sounds, and other noises that critters in distress don't make. Predators somehow sense this and will shy away from poorly made calling CDs. This baby has no sound at all between the sequences....just beautiful, pure silence. The calling was done by somebody who is REAL GOOD at what they do, and the entire deal is digitally remastered for clarity and pure call sounds. I love it when a plan comes together! Some local coyotes are in for a bad time pretty soon. Next project is to find a way to tape a minnow in distress and put that on a CD, then play it back underwater to call in walleyes. Once they are "in range", then the live minnow takes over. Do not denigrate CW over this....those fish have lateral lines for a reason. It's just a matter of time until some enterprising person figures out how to do it.
If a sonar unit transducer can send sound waves through the water, it can be programmed/modified to generate "distressed minnow" frequencies...and it is a proven fact that a walleye will home in on a single minnow swimming erratically while ignoring a whole ball of them five feet away. Ol' CW might be onto "the next big thing" here.......

Re: Uh-oh...
Ron and Rick were the only ones at the WW this morning. Made my out there this morning after work and got there just as they were getting up so I will vouch for them at least being there if they'r's claims of big eye's being caught. Roads were bad over this way, just wet and the temps were too bad either considering the way it from inside somewhere.
swmo
p.s. Nice meeting the both you this morning Lunder and Rick, hope you all did well.

CW - For coyote hunting, just get ya a "roadrunner costume" to wear while you're hunting, and go "beep-beep". It's bound to work, I've seen it on TV for years.
Of course, you gotta hope the coyote hasn't received any packages from Acme Co.

Re: Uh-oh...
I called Pat and told her most of us had wimped out. Steve was up and getting ready to go... but was probably relieved to find out he could go back to bed. (He works nights--Ralph, didja hear that???)
I would have gone after daylight, but when there's snow on the ground I'm unable to get my boat out of the shed (2-wheel drive)...
CW, you just might be onto something there. Although I already have a fish call. Sounds like this:
"Hey, fish!"
Unfortunately, I haven't perfected it yet...

Re: Uh-oh...
Looks like it would have been a decent day to be out on the water, weather wise, but looked a little risky at 5am. There was plenty of slide-offs on the interstate last night, the sirens were going all night long.

Our northern compatriots would have a field day with this if they knew we'd only gotten 1.5" of snow, and we had all this trouble. But up there, they've got the equipment--and more importantly, the EXPERTISE to deal with it.

Re: Uh-oh...
Sam....I got a roadrunner costume, but it shrank a lot after repeated washings, if you know what I mean. Now I rely on stealth, camo hunting clothes, and a loud electric caller. If I can figure out this fish caller deal, I will probably have to make Pd the Universal Corporate Sales representative to make sure that every manufacturer wanting to utilize the technology is treated fairly. Uh huh! Anyway, to borrow a line from the first Indiana Jones movie, "I got people working on it. B I G people."
Although the weather eventually turned out to be better than we anticipated, it was a prudent move to stay home this morning. At least everybody will still have a working automobile tomorrow morning, and we can try again next weekend. ....maybe??? Who knows....maybe BB & CW will go out and get a whole school of big minners to share.

No teasing from me or my hubby, We've been down in those hills in those conditions and I don't blame you one bit for staying in. We may have the equipment up here to deal with the snowy conditions, but we don't have your crazy hills to deal with!
Good call guys. There's always time to go fishing tomorrow.

Re: Uh-oh...
The boy and I did make it to a local lake today and caught a few Crappie and bass. Wish there were some walleyes in the lake that close.
