You know, this is kindof interesting. I mean, municipalities within St. Louis pretty much make their own decisions regarding this. How is it in KC? Did the KC city council drive this home or what?

My muzzys have a carbon steel tip. Granted - right behind that carbon steel tip are some razors. But the tip is not a razor. There is your out. Any decent lawyer (I know - an oxymoron) could get you out based on that.

Go with the flow. Your neighbors are out there doin it - I would be too. You said the mayor has bigger fish to fry then allowing bowhunting. The cops have more important things to do than try to chase down a buy shooting a bow.

KC is huge! Our city limits are the same size as Los Angeles, about 320+ sq miles (St Louis is 65 sq miles). With the liberals who always get voted in to make the rules, the more rural areas get screwed. Within 1 mile of my house there are more horse barns than buisinesses, but we have to follow the same odincances as down town.

Just throwning this out there, but 3-4years ago they had a night shoot to eliminate deer at KCI airport. 400 deer shot by sharp shooters with aid of a spotlight, all okayed by MDC. I think that sets a bad precidence when hunters would pay for the opportunity to hunt these deer. It could be another way to raise revenue fo the city, and take care of a serious problem.

The cops aren't the problem, they aren't going to get out of their cruiser's to check any woodlots for illegal hunting. Hell, they put down enough deer hit on the road to see the problem. It is purely an ethics question. I don't want to break the law, but I see a problem that isn't being adressed, and most likely won't be addressed any time in the near future.

I recall the ordeal at KCI. That was a bad deal all the way around.

I realize the size of KC, but, what I am asking is this: Does Lee's Summit make their own rules or do they have to follow the rules of KC. Heck, is Lee's Summit even part of the 320 square miles? I'm just asking.

Lee's Summit has there own rules, I haven't looked into them seriously, but I recall they have rules that eliminate hunting in city limits also, most likely the same type of BS that lets them supersede the states game laws. Unity Village (between KC and Lee's Summit) has more deer per sq mile than anywhere I know of. I go out of my way to avoid those roads at night, just too risky imo. On a slow evening the wife and I drive out there to see the deer/turks. Lots of deer, and big ones too.

I may be wrong, but I believe municipalities like Wildwood, Chesterfield, T&C, etc..., in St. Louis pretty much make their own decisions regarding the deer within their city limits. Keith@aimlow could probably answer this for sure.

Yes they do. The difference is that on the east side, it is made up of multiple small municipalitites that make there own rules. In the KC area, there are 4-5 large cities, KC, Independence, Lee's Summit, Blue Springs, and Grandview. All have rules against bowhunting (going from memory here) except Grandview, which does allow bowhunting. After seeing several deer dead on the highway in the Grandview triangle, they need to eliminate some of the deer. Its not fair for the animals to get stranded in the middle of a 8 lane hiway, much less the drivers, but it happens from time to time.

Yes the St. Louis municipalities make their own rules. It usually isn't against the law to bowhunt, but is against the law to shot a projectile. For instance, in Town and Country, you can't bowhunt because it is against the law to possess a deadly weapon. So, if caught, you get a ticket for possession. A misdemeanor and I think $100 fine.

My earlier statement of doing it if legal is based on the neighbors. If you are confident that no neighbor is going to call you in, go for it. The hunting could be worth a $100 ticket. Won't be a game violation. And, I think yes, you would have to get caught in the act of shooting.

Robin, I used to work in Kirkwood, and their large parks hold a lot of deer. Just north of the 44-270 junction, there is a lot of undeveloped land around there, with a lot of deer and turkeys. In the parks around Kirkwood it wasn't uncommon to see where a fox had caught a turkey and had dinner. City turkeys are about the dumbest "wild" animals I have ever seen, they have no fear.

I have taken deer in the defiance city limits. Small little draw behind a house and barn. They are funneled like nobodys business. They come through there every night and every morning no matter what. It's a pot shoot. There is no where else for them to cut through. It's easier hunting than open country ( where they can meander, exit and enter anywhere )

dave-t -

I would not hesitate if it is a safe situation. Knowing your neighbors might be a good thing.

We have the same problem with some of the land we goose hunt in Harry's town. There aint one lick of "city" about the land, but it is within the city limits and therefore not legal to hunt.

We have had police cars drive by - whether they were on patrol or called - but they wouldn't get out of their cars and walk the 300 yards to talk to us. I really don't think they were called or cared to be honest.

True Story - the guy that owns the land we hunt on had some kids get in his field a few weeks ago. He was delivering hay to some cattle and saw them driving around in the field (it was night time). It was muddy so he wasn't going to go into the field. He saw the headlights stop and realized they buried...and I mean buried...their SUV. He called the police who came out.

The police told him that they would not do anything to the kids because he did not have "no trespassing" signs out. He asked the police officer where he lived because he wanted to go and drive through his yard since he was pretty sure the cop didn't have it posted. lol

They told him it was just a cornfield and they weren't going to do anything about it. The car was still sitting there two weeks later waiting for it to dry up enough for them to go in and get it.
