That SUV should have turned into a "target" for two weeks.

And in general, according to the MDC. There are sometimes two, to three times more deer in the urban areas. It's easier killin I tell ya.

2B - Easier killing deer in urban areas than where?

The few deer I have whacked within the city limits around here, I felt just plumb stupid about it. Now, if any of them would have been sporting terrific headgear, I would have been feeling dang good about it. I never even bothered hanging a stand. I would just wait for one to mosey by and whack him. One night, I had 6 does at 20 yards eating under a persimmon tree in my buddies yard. There was a soccer game on the other side of his house. I just turned away from the deer and enjoyed the game for a bit. No way I could have shot those deer. 2B, if TTTim can whack them eating out of a flower garden, anyone can.

PS, I have had simulair experience's. I had 4 or 5 does under me and not more the 50 yards away was this 12 year old just tormenting the heck out of his little sister probably maybe 4 years old. She screamed and screamed and screamed, I thought I was gonna go out of my mind. The deer however were not bothered at all. Rediculous. Image

And Robin, the maturity of the deer does not seem to matter much in the urban areas..... and I have hunted them. Just my experience.

Oh, and before you guys start in on me about the HFA being in an urban area, I must say I am 12 minutes by road from the nearest Columbia, MO exit. Maybe 3 miles as the crow flies though. Image

The Sanctuary is in a subdivision, however.

As long as you are 50-60yds away from urban deer, they could care less about what you do. I have had the bbq grill going in the back yard and had a spike buck come to within 15yds of the grill. I went out to put meat on and that ran him off, but 3 minutes later when I went to turn the meat, there he was again, 15yds away from the grill, with venison cooking on it!

I've also had to run deer out of the yard to practice shooting my bow. Its pretty bad when you get distracted by deer 30yds off to the side of your archery target, while you're actually shooting. The deer are that way because nobody hunts them or pesters them too bad. The turkeys though, jeesh, they're just dumb. They're window of safety was only 15-20yds, but the bobcats have been putting a hurting on them lately, maybe they will wise up some.

I live maybe five minutes from Dave-T (west side of Longview Lake). I have 80 acres at the end of my subdivision that borders the interstate and is thick with deer. During the rut I saw 4 bucks with 6 points or better.

The KC cops do bust people for hunting in the city limits, as they make a big deal of it on the local news. mostly they mess with the hunters in the Northland during gun season. It's hard to say if they would bust you or not....I would say not if you are bordered by that much acreage.

BTW, has anyone heard anything new about the KC ordinance they passed last year? It is supposed to make it legal to hunt in the city limits for some "managed" hunts in some of the county parks.

There already are managed hunting in Jackson Co parks, Longview had its first draw bow hunt this past year. Lake Jacomo has a muzzle loader hunt, but one draw hunt with 50 hunters won't touch the ammount of deer that are in these areas.

Wow Tiger, you are close. With that avitar pic I figured that you were in Columbia. MOCraig is moving this way too. All of a sudden I feel surounded. Image
