A lot of deer lately.

Post by Warmouth » February 23rd, 2005, 4:00 pm

I saw 22 deer yesterday. 12 in a school baseball field at 6pm, and 10 in my front yard at 11pm last night. Some idiot kept driving by(3 or 4 times) and taking pictures of them standing under the streetlights eating acorns from the big oak in my front yard. What a goober.

Still, 10 is now the new record for the front yard, I'll keep you posted if any other records need to be updated. Image

BTW- Does anyone know a good load for drive by shutterbugs?

How's your bedroom hunting going to be this weekend? Does your wife have my shooting lane all trimmed up?

No, but I did find a terrific stand location, I'll have to build a rest for the ladder so that you won't squish my gutter getting on the roof. Image

Really though, I did find a stand location with major rubs all around a bench off of a ridge. I will need to trim up a few branches, as the tree is in a great spot, it's also right on a vegetation break from hardwood to cedars. I had been looking in the bottoms, and the better sign was up top. I'll have to see what it looks like in about 7-8 months. There will be deer.

The rest of you can only imagine my success with hunting in the bedroom, I get my limit every time boys. Image

hobie-Our window blinds are always closed, I don't trust city people to be decent. Look at MOCraig for crying out loud.

Its the turkeys that are dumb, I had 32 in the yard at 5:15 yesterday evening. I'm going to train them to get the mail, and bring me the paper. 3 nice toms, but they may as well be barnyard chickens, tame.

There was actually a deer track on the walk leading to my driveway this morning. All of 4' from my house. This time of year, they've eaten everything to be had, and now they have to scrounge for what is left in odd places. Still, I think it's sick for deer to get this way, they would be wild if they had the means to avoid people, but it is impossible because they need to feed. Image

I don't shoot anything in the yard, the neighbors and my wife like to watch the critters, heck I do too, but I have access to hunt the land right behind my yard, thick woods. It's the same deer, but shooting stuff in my yard seems tacky. I could outright murder deer and turks in my yard, but there would be no skill in it. I really believe I could shoot 3-4 turkeys with a slingshot from my kitchen window, before they ran off out of range. They are dumb as a city park squirrel. The deer are actually skittish and run off if they see us peeking through the windows, unless they are in the front yard, then they don't even look when some goober is snapping photo's from 50' away. I don't cut many shooting lanes Craig, it adds to the level of skill needed to succeed.

Actually, it may be too much for you between that, and the fact that I don't allow GPS units around here. I doubt you could find your Image without one. Image

You guys don't seem to understand the beauty of bow hunting in a non-firearms area. The hunting just keeps getting better the later and colder it gets. I don't even like to get back there before mid-Oct. Late Oct. is even better, there is no need to tip off the deer before the leaves start falling imo. Firearms season has no effect on these deer.

I had 8 out in my yard the other day. In fact, my neighbor likes to feed them out of a feeder in his back yard...Kind of draws em in to my area....The other day I was driving out of my neighborhood and I had to actually wait for 4 of em to cross the road... Image

Craig, the lawn chair in the bed of the truck could actually work. The guys who work at Little Blue Trace park often have to honk at the deer to get them out of the way of the truck. If you could lay off the horn, we could sneak up on them. Image
