How effective are hunters at controlling deer populations?
How effective are hunters at controlling deer populations?
I would say hunters are the best method of controlling deer populations.

Those of us who routinely kill does are quite effective. The bonehead hunters don't do poopoo for population control.

Re: How effective are hunters at controlling deer population
Some hunters are mindfull to how many deer can be taken off a given area and still maintain a huntable population. I certainly believe that hunting is the very best means of population control but it's up to every individual hunter to practice good QDM. Thus if a weekend warrior who spends little time understanding QDM then goes out and kills every deer he can legally harvest and then walks away patting himself on the back for doing his part in population control is missing the objective. That is desimation of the species in a given area. I hunted a farm last year that should have had deer crawling all over it. The farmer and surrounding farmers have killed the whole area out w/nusence ( sp ? ) permits. Sad

I call bullchit on those nuisance tags, MDC needs to grow a pair on that. I remember one of your post where you said they would shoot the deer and let them rot in the fields. That blinded me with anger to the point I do not even want to try to understand those farmer's point of view.
