Illinois out-of-state tags

Post by Rafe Hollister » May 9th, 2005, 3:25 pm

are going up.

News story in State Journal-Register.

I guess they saw that since the tags sold out in a few hours last year, the price was obviously too low. So now you can be squeezed for $500. Image

IL is totally screwed up! MDC is light years ahead of the IL DNR. How many people on here regularly bought an IL NR archery tag? and will you still consider doing so? I HATE to, but my best land is in IL and I probably will again this year even at $500. I don't pay anything for a lease on three nice farms, so I've always considered my tag cost equal to a lease. I guess my lease is going up. BT Image

Bought em for years. 2003 was my last hunt in Illinois as it looks. I won't pay that kind of dough unless I am out of options here in missouri.

I think MDC ought to be reciprical ( sp ? ) and charge 500$ for Illinois resident's only to come hunt our dam turkeys.

I agree. You know a lot of out of staters come to MOMO land for the turkeys. I would hate to live in a state where I could only kill a bird or two per year. If I don't kill a half-dozen or more in a year, then I feel I have short-changed myself and the MDC with respect to managing our turkey population.

I know this is kinda like talkin to yourself and all, but why do you have to travel to other states just to kill a half-dozen or more per year? There are plenty here in the Showme State for you to get a half-dozen or more.

What exactly are you trying to setup here ? There is a combination of two little words like season limit..... remember ?

I would love to see MO go with reciprocal fees for out of state hunters. The only problem would be the idiots behind the counter of Wal-mart would be too confused about the process to get it right. It could add to the experience of buying a tag in MO, though, watching an idiot have a melt down trying to figure out the pricing scheme.

That is zactly what I am saying there dipchitacus. I just go to other states to get my fix before MO season even starts. With all of the 2 in one shot birds that I kill, getting a half dozen per year is totally within my reach. I would like to say I travel to other states for the sheer enjoyment of the hunt. However, when I hit the KS state line, I go into turkey killing mode. If I spend $100 on a turkey tag, I want some turkey donkey. If JT and I didn't kill out in one day in KS, I would think something is wrong. Next year, I have a plan for KS that is gonna be win-win for everyone involved. Image

I wasn't talking to you 2B, but the last I checked, I could kill 6 birds legally in MO in any given year.

Two in spring, two in fall. That's four. What am I missing ? Besides, I have not known you to fall turkey hunt except from your deer stand during archery.
