Reads like a George Perry story. It is kind of funny how fate plays these things out sometimes. Some people can make it a life's quest and spend a fortune to obtain far less than what was gained here with a $15 rod reel combo and a $2 bait.
I take that life if I can, with regret as well as joy, and with the sure knowledge that nature’s ways of fang and claw or exposure and starvation are a far crueler fate than I bestow. – Fred Bear

Seriously, this is proof that QCM can work. She probably passed on this one 3 or 4 years now to let it reach its maximum potential, and increased the harvest of males to allow the big females more forage to grow faster. This is a lesson to us all.

As a practitioner of QCM I appreciate your stance Rafe. It shows patience and maturity, soon we will all have hordes of 4lb crappie. Image

Hobs, I did that with the biggest crappie I ever caught, 17.5". I was in college and thought about having it mounted, but the knife was ready, so I filleted the darn thing. I've regretted it ever since. Image

Jason Holman of Hannible stands in front of Happy Jacks Bait and Tackle, holds what could be a record catch for White Crappe. Holman was fishing on Route O recently when he snagged what he and his friends measured as an 18 1/2 inch long and approxamatly 5 1/2 pound White Crappie. the state record for a White Crappie, according to the Missouri Department of Conservation's Web Site, is 4 pounds 9 ounces. Holman was in contactr with a local MDC representative to have the weight and length verified.

Tiger, after studying a map of the area, seems Route O that this guy "snagged" this crappie from leads to one of the salt rivers that flows out of MTL.
