Iowa...

Post by PoisonSnake » June 29th, 2005, 9:36 am

Fellows: I just got back from a trip to Iowa City. I drove very near Albi and kindof up through SE Iowa to get there. To me, the terrain is central/northern MO made over. To think the deer hunting there for big bucks is better makes me wish for a rifle season in December even more. I haven't been out in the woods there like I have in KS and IL. Those two states are thick and wooly as well as having ideal gun/shotgun seasons. Anyway, I didn't get drawn for a tag this year, but I now have an IA preference point. I wouldn't mind living up there even. PS

Im going up there this weekend for a family reunion. I still have a farm up there but its all corn and beans with not one tree on the place. I have never tried to get a tag for up there. I still have friends and family with farms all over the place, but have never thought about hunting there. Might have to go for it next year.

PS - Are you trying to tell me that north Missouri looks almost exactly like southern Iowa??? I'm shocked! Image

I'd like hunting in IA, deer and birds, but I don't think I'd want to live there. IA is where they filmed "Children of the Corn"! Image

That ought to scare you away from there.

Ever been lost in a corn field? It sucks.

Lived in Iowa for 5 years. Hunting was great. The rest wasn't worth a pizz.
McLintock, great party, but no whiskey. We go home.

Actually, I think northern MO looks to be a little flatter. I like the looks of Iowa better.

yeah, the terrain really changes when you cross that imaginary line in the cornfield. Image

BB-"sucks" is an understatement depending on the size of the field. Image

Maybe I just want to hunt there so darn bad I am imagining things. But, Hwy 34 from Otumwa to Mt. Pleasant looks deery and reminds me a lot of river country ground. North of Mt. Pleasant, it was pretty flat.

MoCraig: I hope you have already applied for your tag. I think you might be a little late. I just found out I was kyboshed. PS

PS,

Why not just wish for a shotgun/smokepole season, and leave the rifles for coyotes, and such. It seems to be working here, and in IA.
One day, long, long ago, there lived a woman who did not whine, nag, or bitch.
But it was a long time ago, and it was just that one day.

I've been wishing for that forever. The only thing I can see happening is the possibility of moving the rifle season to December, and that will take an act of God.
