Conservation Area Roulette

Post by X Bow T » July 11th, 2005, 8:59 am

Why hasn't anyone brought up the closing of numerous conservation areas, and futher restrictions on a long list of others? Image I know why, most everyone hunts private land, and loves their lease.

From MDC's 40 page pdf of new regs...

"Deer Hunting Regulations on Areas Managed or Owned by the Conservation Department
To maintain healthy populations of deer and to provide quality hunting opportunities statewide, conservation area managers and biologists carefully evaluate the effects of deer hunting on all areas owned or managed by the Conservation Department. As a result, regulations on many areas have changed for 2005. Carefully check the chart below to find the type of hunt you prefer.

Deer hunting is only allowed on Department areas that are listed in the chart. If an area that is owned or managed by the Conservation Department is not listed, no deer hunting is allowed. For hunting opportunities on public land that is not owned or managed by the Conservation Department, contact the appropriate government agency.

The Regulation Chart and Managed Area listing will be online soon. Until then, please consult pages 24-32 of the PDF version of this document for this information."

ie.) Archery only, archery/muzzleloader only, antlerless permits invalid..... dependening on the day of the week, and current barometric pressure! (almost)

I'm glad to see some micro magagement of the CA's. Sounds like it's one step closer to daily permits and limited drawings in your CA's future.

Image for all! But what do you care, you already own yours.

X Bow: I was glad to see this as well. It is the first time that I have seen the MDC take a positive step toward regulating the herd on these areas. I just hope it isn't too late on some areas. PS

It too close to season to start agreeing.

Sounds like it's pretty bleak in some of those closed areas.
Hard to break the cycle, now that it's started. The Pressure will just be redirected to less restricted areas.

I was just checking both areas I hunt are Bucks only this year. Both Achery and Firearms.

Last two years its been Unlimited Does, and this year seen more Deer than I've ever have.

Lots of people around here are not going to be happy considering they count on Deer Meat.I'll just stay on my place and not buy any Tags.

My local area is worse than ever.

Our local areas would be better off if the were restricted for a while, the problem is though, it is road hunting ruining it, and law enforcement has better things to do than cruise around the conservation area. More Conservation officers would help here.

I would love to see new rules, but if there aren't enough people to enforce the rules, it is pointless.

I know , I know Image

Even though I have land to hunt, it would be nice to see wildlife on our local area. It also might help put a little challenge back in hunting. I hunnt for meat anyway, I'd be happy with the does.

Careful there 2B, Image

One day you could find yourself relying on public land. In IA! Soon... when only the folks with the most dough, get to bake in privacy. Image

I will buy me 80acres minimum once I get there. I promise. I cut my teeth on CA's and don't really want to go back to it. I would do it if I had to, no question.
