As the World Turns

Post by JimDog » August 4th, 2005, 11:12 am

Some times this site is just a big Soap Opera...

This morning I got up and checked my email. I had receivd one from Coyotewacker explaining that he was stepping down as moderator of the Walleye Forum. In addition, he explained that he would no longer be posting messages here. I received this message with mixed emotions.

On one hand, I really liked the old guy. Although I have never met him, it was clear that he enjoyed hunting and fishing in Missouri - the one thread that ties us all together. I also have an enormous amount of respect for anyone who has served our country in the armed services. When someone came looking for advice, he always had some to offer. I really believe that he played an instrumental role in making the walleye forum what it is. And for that I am thankful.

As most of you know, I have taken a pretty "hands-off" approach to this web site. A few months back, as further restrictions were placed on my time, I appointed moderators to the different forums. I asked for nominations, and CW seemed to be the overwhelming favorite for the walleye forum. Like the other moderators, he didn't do any real moderating. I didn't assign moderators to fix a problem, but rather to avoid problems in the future. I also wanted them to be the forum "janitor" - and sweep discussions that had gone way off topic over to the lodge.

I think everyone knows that this whole situation was brought to a head by the return of a member who had posted here in the past, but had been away from the site for quite some time. Apparently CW and this person have a rift going way back. When this person started posting again, CW felt it appropriate to moderate his posts. When the person continued to post messages, CW resigned as moderator. He was concerned that he was not given the authority to fully moderate the forum.

I contacte CW about it, and he was concerned that he did not have the authority to ban this user. You see, moderators have the ability to moderate posts, not users. Only administrators can ban users. This is a limitation of the software, not an issue of trust. If the software would allow it, all moderators would have that authority. As far as I am concerned, moderators can do what they gotta do, then tell me about it later.

Since CW had deleted this person's posts, I couldn't go back and see what it was that was so offensive about them. But as a moderator, I trusted his judgement and agreed to ban the user. It wasn't until last night that I had a chance to pull up a backup of the site and see the posts. I saw nothing offensive in any of them. I also talked to several members of this forum, and it was clear from talking to them that this is nothing more then a good ole Hatfield vs. McCoy style feud. And best I can tell, the feud was not even between CW and this other person - it was CW's buddy and this person. And it was apparently the result of something that happened years ago.

The fact of the matter is that I do NOT know all of the facts, nor do I really feel the need to. But to the best of my knowledge, the person in question here has never done anything wrong on this forum that I can see. At some point, you have to let by gones be by gones and just move on. It is pretty clear that CW is not ready to do that just quite yet. That is his decision.

I am pleased to announce that the only person ever banned from this forum has been reinstated as a member. I am also in the market for a new walleye forum moderator. Only this time we are not going to vote, we are going to bid for it. I would like to open the bidding at one pound of FRESH walleye fillets...

Jim, you run a good board here, and all us members trust your judgement.

This is a good group of guys. There's no need for a moderator here. I'll score you that pound of fillets just to leave it unmoderated. Image

There'll be no trouble here on my part. Image

I wonder what happened to that big weirdo. And by "big weirdo" I mean "Missouri big weirdo."

Who ever becomes the new moderator needs to keep up the tradition and keep DSG off here life is much better around here when DSG can't be heard! Image

hogwild, How the fuqq would you know? Image

Let's just end this right here with an apology from you for the personal attack so this board can maintain it's integrity, deal?

If you can point out one darn thing I've done wrong, I'm all ears. Otherwise maybe you should just take a good dose of STFU. Image

Just got back from 2 weeks in Canada, and all I can say is....What happened????

CW is gone, and I have been reading a lot of "very unfriendly posts". Did someone open the sewer and let the rats out?

Maybe the MWAA ought to have it's own post forum on the website.
AGH...lost it....She pulled down my pants and all she did was giggle.

Help me out here. I do not want to open a can of worms from way up here in the North. Can someone please let me know what is going on. AA, Reel XTC, Powerdive, any one of you can PM me and let me know what the heck happend.

I don't need a ton of details and kinda pieced it together so far, but I would like to stay in touch with CW, he became a good friend the past few months.

Thanks a ton, I will still be around from time to time to help out as much as I can. Feel free to drop a line with any questions.
Keep the Line Tight,

Johnnie Candle

Wish I could say the same Johnnie...It's my opinion that Jim Dog has made a bad decision here...real bad.

I can't see myself visiting this sight much anymore.
Afterall, it was CW's humor and daily long winded stories that would get me to visit everyday. I knew I could count on getting a chuckle or two each time I came in. It just won't be the same anymore, so it's time to move on.
CW, if you read this...keep in touch!

See y'all...take care.

Juls
