Re: Who here leases hunting land?
Dave: I have nothing against leases and like I have stated, I would lease if I didn't own property. I know many folks see them as being bad for hunting. But, with what happened out near the HFA this summer, I kindof wish the land was leased out to hunters so that the landowners could have supplemented their income without having to worry about crop losses due to deer damage. Anymore, most leesees tend to practice QDM and I think that is good for the herd at least. There is no excuse for the wonton killing and waste of deer that the MDC allows to happen through nuisance tags. Especially now that there are unlimited tags available during the fall hunting seasons. PS

I agree. There should not be unlimited tags in and out of the season.
On leasing, I have been lucky, and actually hunted Kieth and Robins Kirksville spot for the last 9yrs. I just got to know the farmer and some friends and was invited to hunt. This year I'll be farther north west, on smaller property.
After hunting in Kirksville and a couple other north MO farms, the quality would be worth it imo.
It would be worth it in the city too, just because of the ammount of deer.
The issues I have are some of the prices. On AT guys are talking about $10-40 per acre for a lease! A lot of folks would be out of it totally. I hate seeing hunting becoming a rich mans sport. I will be on hunting property because I'm insane about killing chit, but not everyone would go the extra step if they couldn't hunt on a family farm or buddies place.

I am just thankful Missouri has acres upon acres of public land throughout the state. I here that leases are so popular in other states is because of the lack of productive public land.

Lots of dirt on those public lands for you to shoot at, BB. Not too many sheds, though.

Don't let ole PS pull one over on you guys about all this nuisance permit killing going on. He showed me the amount of area that these deer are being killed, in relation to the view out my front door at my house. It's like 1,200 acres!!!

SF,
You are full of interesting information, knuckle fornicate
I haven't looked at leases yet and really haven't needed to yet. I am in a cost sharing arrangement on some ground up north that costs about $500 a year.

Re: Who here leases hunting land?
I told you SF that the killing was done within 1 square mile, so it is half of what you are saying.
As far as lease prices, I believe $10/acre is pretty commonplace these days. I know there are some areas that I would lease for that amount with certainty.
