Re: Who here leases hunting land?
In the late 80's / early 90's , I leased 250 ac. in Clark co. It was a mix of crops , crp, and wooded draws. At the time , we were giving $ 3 per ac.
I understand it's now between $ 10 and $ 15 in that area.

$7 per acre is the most I've heard about around here.

$1,100 to hunt/fish everything on 1,100 acres (a year) You do the math. It is worth it if you want to see some deer with a lot of bone on their heads, kill a couple of turkeys, fill a sack full of shrooms, shoot some ducks, catch a sack full of crappie/catfish on a 25 A lake...
PS you know where it is an you know I ain't stretching it.
OBTW...

I don't know, MOCraig. I don't pay anything to hunt 2,000 acres. So I did the math, and I win.

There you go throwing around the gay term again. You are the one responsible for running this board down, and I'm sick of it.

HEY! Yesterday you said I was responsible for dragging it down and today you're giving all the credit to Craig!

And another thing--why is it you're angry about him calling you gay, but don't seem to care about him accusing you of being an insurance salesman. Seems to me it'd be the other way around.

Maybe JimDog can put up a filter to keep that kind of language out of here. This is a family-friendly board.

Re: Who here leases hunting land?
I've looked at leasing in the distant past, and finally decided it was just better to buy. I have bought several smaller tracts in ag areas of western MO (15-20 acres) that are in close proximity to large public acreage or private tracts. I have carefully chosen these tracts for wildlife potential and proximity to food sources.
Over time, I have met all my neighbors and received permission on their properties as well so I have greatly increased my huntable acreage. The benefit of owning the land extends to other activities beyond hunting and fishing.
I looked into the MAHA many years ago and it would be a great way to maximize the acreage you would have access to, but decided against it due to the restrictions on guests. I understand the rationale behind it, but hunting and fishing are social sports and many of my friends don't make enough money to drop close to $1000/year for hunting and fishing rights. They instead come out to my properties and hunt/fish for free, and do a little work around the place in trade.

Re: Who here leases hunting land?
I don't like the idea of someone that I don't know who pays $800/year, hunting the same land that I pay $800/year to hunt when I'm not there, or on a weekend that I want to hunt it. Therefore, I bought 61 acres of land to hunt on for what I thought was an astronomical amount of $. Luckily, I could already double my investment if I wished to do so. Someday, I will probably just sell out and go to KS, IA, IL, Canada, or out west for 2 weeks every year. PS

I've got a question, why do you always end all your posts with, PS?
We can tell that you're making the post already, by that goofy picture and your screen name on the left side of the post!!!

Re: Who here leases hunting land?
You can rest assured it would be darn near impossible for someone to hunt it without my knowing. Now, there are a couple of fellows that I do know that have hunted it when I am not around.
