First 15 Minutes
It didn't take long for this buck to make a mistake opening morning. He gave my brother a perfect broadside shot at 80 yards. Sorry about the picture size.

Rafe,
Marlin 30-30. He's used that gun the last 7 years and won't shoot anything else.

Everybody & his dog has a Marlin 336 30-30. I got one, too. My next big caliber gun will be the 44mag or 444.

B&D it looks like your bro has lined up behind a loaded gun, at least there are rounds in the magazine. Not the best practice. Nice buck though.

Rainbow,
Nice catch. He did have a round in the magazine but the chamber was clean. I agree, it should have been completely unloaded. He did that after the pictures were taken. I think it slipped his mind because he was so excited. Not an excuse, just the truth.

Re: First 15 Minutes
I hear ya B&D. I used to shoot one of those and the tendency after you shoot a deer is to jack another one in just in case. I think I saw the round in the mag before I saw the deer in the pic because I look for that stuff. Getting shot hurts, I know. Good buck, congratulate him from all of us.
Re: First 15 Minutes
Not sure I would blame that all on the type of gun.

Re: First 15 Minutes
I shouldn't have said anything without knowing all the details about this. In my heart I know my dad didn't do anything carelsss but I know he's not perfect but I also know guns are not perfect either. My wifes uncle gave her an old nylon 66 .22 When we got it we went out to shoot it. I shot it first and had no problems shooting it the first time but the second time when I took it off safety the button popped up. I jiggled it back down. When the button went back down the gun fired. I know people have shot 30.30 plenty of times without problems but who's to say this time the gun wasn't the problme this time?

I wasn't out to bust your balls. Noone is perfect. I wish you had not deleted your post. If someone could learn from someone elses mistake, then posting your story is not a shame. Many on this board would have picked over your post and told you how careless your dad was as if they are immune to catastrophy. If they were honest with themselves, they could probably share a few stories of carelessness that they are not proud of. Of course that would never happen. That being said, unload you guns when not in use, and get rid of that .22!
