A Picture Story of a Mock Scrape Buck

Post by Keith@AimLow » December 2nd, 2005, 12:21 am

Once upon a time a hunter decides to set up his new Cuddeback trail camera 20 yds. out in front of his ground blind he made in one of his suburban hunting spots. A couple of nice rubs keeps his hopes up even though he has yet to see a good buck at this location.

Image

The hunter decides this would be a heck of spot for a big'ol nice mock scrape. He goes out and buys some doe in heat urine in a bottle and makes a nice big scrape.

Image

12 hours later while the hunter is back at home catching some ZZZ's and dreaming about what might be at the new scrape......this is going on!

That is a beautiful deer. I think you need to get the scrapejuice out this weekend. I forgot, you will be in TN. How about you give me the co-ordinates dor this urban spot?

I saw the rubs, and was thinking they looked pretty dinky, but dang, that's a great buck.

I'd cancel all plans until that sucker had an arrow in him.

Good luck.

What do you guys think that deer would score? I am terrible at guestimating scores, but that deer looks like the one I was hunting hard before rifle season. I am curious if my estimates were close.

Between 150 and 160" is my guess. I haven't gotten nasty with numbers, but he is 150 class for sure.

Is it just a dumbass duck hunter's opinion, or does that deer look to be relatively young ? From that angle he sure doesn't appear to be an old roman-nosed, deep chested buck.

Keith,

Awesome pic. Good luck stickin' him. Image

No DMR, I think you are correct. Hard to tell from the way he is standing, but his neck and chest still have some "separation", he still has that racehorse look to him. Appearance of long legs, no belly or swooping back. I would guess 3.5

I had estimated the one I was seeing as a 160. So I am glad that I was not way off in my estimates. Of course, I strongly suspect that the one I was seeing is the same one now lying in the ditch minus head and cape right by where I park to hunt. Man, that burns my Image.

He does look to be a 3.5 year old. But, put another 40 pounds on him and that is what he would have looked like a month back.
