What a friend!

Post by Bloodtrail » January 11th, 2006, 12:21 pm

I'm telling you, I may be the luckiest person alive in regards to landing good hunting spots, and I just publicly wanted to say "Thank You Jesus"!
I have been hunting in IL for about 8 years on good ground but not great. Except I paid nothing for it so that made it great. 2 years ago an old college buddy of mine bought 120 acres of GREAT land and this year 3 of us bowhunted it. It is a GREAT place and I paid $0 for it and feel very fortunate. Yesterday the same buddy calls me to say the 88 acres that ajoins him just went up for sale and he said that he's buying it. He cant stand to see someone else come in a buy it. I'm telling you, its even better than his place. He offered for me to lease it from him, at what ever I can to help him out around the place. Placing stands, planting food plots, repairs, etc. . WOW is all I can say. I can treat it like my own without those monthly payments. WOW. He said that he wants me to get my chit together and be able to take it off his hands 5 years down the road while he buys more around us. WOW! Its a dream come true for me, and What a friend is all I can say. This is in West Central IL where you really only need about 20 to cash out bigtime on a good un. Image

You know Smitty, the funny thing is. I had just declared myself in the market to lease a farm in Northern MO and quit gun hunting in IL so we could hunt with the boys more in MO. But now with this opportunity, I think I'm gonna have to put all my resources into this place and deal with our 80 acres of crapola around home to let the boys hunt on until their ready to cross the river with us.
I'm telling you, I'm setting here just shaking my head in disbelief of the call I got last night. This place is a 10 in anyone's book. I hope he can pull it off!

I couldn't be any happier for you Chris. I agree that you need to buy it for sure. The way things are changing, unless you own, at some point you will lose a good hunting farm and have to improvise. That is just the way it is.

I agree, and I was realistically 5 years away from buying, now I get to put it in lay away and use it at the same time. Pretty good deal, huh.

By the way, you wouldn't believe what land prices have done in the last 5 years over there. WOW! We all missed the boat by not buying 5-10 years ago.

If this goes thru, all options might be on the table.

They have done the same thing around here. I feel pretty lucky to own only 61 acres. I think you need to lease to me for $500 per year. I only want one week of hunting.

BT - I'll offer you $10 acre for the new place. $2 is insulting, Hobie. Besides, you're a duck hunter.

Duck hunter! I cant have my deer getting confused with that shadow grass camo running round the farm.
By the way, his offer is on the fax right now to the realtor, we'll see what happens.

I maybe a duck hunter, but I likes to whack me some deers too! I'm what ya calls an "equal opportunity killa"... ya know, open-minded when it comes to killin and such.

And I don't wear shadow grass, even when I am huntin ducks.
