Tony, That shot is way too low to be one of mine.

BJ,

How can you tell what kind of a shot this person took? Why is it an unethical one? Looks like a classic quartering away shot to me. Personally I think its photoshopped anyhow, but thats beside the point.

Draw a line thru the center of the photo, then do the same down the back of the deer to intersect with the center line, and then down the center of the arrow the difference between the 2 angles should and the distance between the back and the arrow ( based on average size of a deer ) looks to be about 3.5- 4 inchs from the top of the deers back. IMO bad shot.

There is no question it is a bad shot.

How you can say it was an unresponsible shot is what I have an issue with. Even the best of hunters make a less than desirable shot on occasion. If you don't believe that you are kidding yourself. The shot is off by inches, not feet. You talk as if the arrow in in it's donkey or something.

Actually MOCraig saw a very similar buck, not quite that wide, both times he hunted with me. Otherwise he was very close to that one. MOC's buck was closer to 16.5" inside.

I did pass sub 15yd shots at him at least twice in the late season.

heck it doesn't look like that bad of a shot to me. Maybe a couple inches high at best. I can't really judge how far back it is, but it looks to be quartering toward the vitals a bit.

Now, to put things in perspective, the first shot on the 9 pointer this year was right at that height on the deers body. It was at the back of the ribs, however. Complete pass-thru and he lived 13 more days.

I have 4 Deg. difference from the arrows center line angle and the center line of the deer, now I have shot 5 deer in the 28 years I have been hunting, I do not take less than desirable shots. I am not by any means "the best of hunters" I just have a mind set that does not allow for a bad shot. I mean no insault to you by this post, it is the way I shoot.

I probably know of 3 deer that I have killed that were hit worse than that photo. I don't miss very often either. But, it happens. Twice on the same deer even. When I liver shoot a deer, I am intelligent enough to leave the animal be for half of the day or overnight.
