Re: World Record Bass (maybe)
I just saw on ESPN where they said he foul hooked it. I don't know about out there but here he would get a ticket.
Re: World Record Bass (maybe)
If he released it, why would he get a ticket? The link I read said he admitted foul hook, took pictures and released.

What I saw was on TV and didn't say anything about a release.

Re: World Record Bass (maybe)
He released it alright- but after having it in his possession longer than allowable to avoid getting a ticket. I think it was more of a "snagging" process than a "foul-hook" process. He was ripping the jig when the bass started her "look down" on it- then he ended up hooking her below the dorsal fin. He should have IMMEDIATELY released her for him to be totally legal.

Re: World Record Bass (maybe)
It may not have been lawful, but I don't think it's reasonable for a guy to land a 25lb bass, and not get a couple witnesses and pic while he had it. I commend the guy for being honest enough to say it was foul hooked.
How many folks who are into bass fishing would have cashed that sucker in for the $1mill+ in sponsorships and never said a word about where it was hooked? about 90% or more imo.

Two can keep a secret, if one is...
He was fishing with a buddy, Warmouth. Fishing buds are notorious for tellin the rest of the story
With a story as big as this one could play out, I think 90% is to high ...unless the lot of us fish with a blind mute.
Now if I was out solo; Oh' it was hooked in the mouth, I reeled it in without breaking the string and and and I did not net the fish while the not detached leader string was hung on a log. And such

Re: World Record Bass (maybe)
If the scales check out, the fish is absolutely a world record fish by weight alone. I don't think a foul hooked fish should count as a record for the angler, and shouldn't go in the books.

I think it should go in the record book, but without the anglers name, just say it was foul hooked.

Re: World Record Bass (maybe)
You see foul-hooked fish all of the time on Bassmasters and FLW. I guarantee you those boys still wish to have their name written on that check when they receive it.
I'd list it as the record, list his name along with the fish, and clearly state the method of which it was caught. He should be commended for coming forward and admitting it was foul-hooked.
