Creosote spill in Little Sac

Post by coyotewhacker » April 8th, 2004, 10:30 am

With reports of some 1200 gallons of creosote getting dumped into the Little Sac River above Stockton, I would think that a lot of us are concerned about the long term effects on fishing, not just the next two or three weeks, but perhaps far into the summer. Does anybody here have any past experience fishing a particular body of water after a major disaster like this? Any ideas on what we can expect for the forseeable future. I hadn't seen another post asking this same thing, but if it's already here, refer me back to it.

Root wads won't rot now. Image

Seroiusly, If it was dumped into the river in one big slug, There will be some fished killed but no long term effects, like Dioxin. If was leaked in slowly I wouldn't be concerned. Either way I would hope for some high river flows to dilute it crap.

If there is a danger in eating the fish MDC and/or DNR will let us know. - fish

Here is a link to the story:

It seems like the issue is more with the raw sewage because of the creosote killing of the WWTP microbes, than the actual creosote itself.

It seems the biggest threat for the long term is often the killing off of the food chain. Once the insect larvae, Crawdads and minnows are destroyed the larger fish starve or leave.
