Fishing Report from Sterett Creek Marina 04/06/04
The lake level is dropping nicely but the water temp. is not going up as fast as I would like to see. With another week of warm weather we might even see some fish go to the banks. The lake has been going down about 6" a day. In our area the water color is stained but its very fishable. We did have some really good bass caught over the weekend. Cy Wilson weighed in a 8lb.10oz. largemouth on Sunday. Also on Sunday Jerry Mc Cutchin had a couple over 7lbs. in a tournament out of Bucksaw.
WATER LEVEL: 709.5
WATER TEMP: 52deg.
WATER CLARITY: Stained to muddy.
BASS: Spinner baits seem to be working the best in our area. Chartreuse with a big gold blade fished in 1' to 3' of water is the way to go. The secret is fishing the flooded grass close to a drop off. The slower you can move the bait the better it is. Secondary points seem to be holding fish. Jig and frog and tubes are working in the same areas. Black and blue is the best color in the stained water. When fishing back in a creek look for the warmest water. A 2 deg. change can make all the difference in the world.
CRAPPIE: The crappie fishing is still slow. Jerry Coose has been catching a few limits in the evenings. He said he has been fishing 15' of water about 13' deep. The fish had started moving up a little but with the water falling as fast as it is the fish have backed off a little. Now would be a good time to hit the out side tree rows along the creek chancels. Jigs are still working the best. This weekend on Sat. Crossroads is having a crappie tournament here at Sterett Creek. For info you can contact Ozzie Wallace at 660-438-2868.
WHITES: No report.
CATFISH: Jugs are doing a good job on catfish in our area. Cut shad seems to be the best bait. Stages are being set about 10'.
Thats it for this week from Sterett Creek Marina

Don't forget next Tuesday, April13 the Tuesday night hawg fights start. We will fish from 5:30 to 8:15 pm. Now you have to remember that even if the fish don't bite you can still come and make fun of Emil Tally.
So till next week we bid you good fishing.
Tommy

Re: Fishing Report from Sterett Creek Marina 4/6/04
I want to personally welcome Tommy to OutdoorMissouri.com. He posted this report after a personal invite from yours truly.
One of my pet peves is a bait shop or marina that always posts that "the fishing is awesome" so you head down to their place and spend money. You get there and don't catch squat. And they tell you that it just shut down yesterday. While I realize that things absolutely can change overnight, if it happens all the time, you start to wonder. Especially when you never see a bad report.
One of the things that I appreciate about Tommy and Sterret Creek is that they always provide a good HONEST report. If the fishing sucks, they will tell you so. Tommy has agreed to email me his fishing report weekly, and I will post it if he is unable to. I have extended this invitation to several others who I feel provide accurate and honest information - hopefully we will be hearing from them shortly. I hope everyone will give Tommy a warm welcome

A clear conscience is the sign of a bad memory.

Tommy/JimDog, when a report is accurate it is a great help to us fisherman who live 3 hours away from the lake. I love fishing Truman but sure don't want to drive down there and get skunked. Keep up the good work. JimDog, as always you da man. I will give Sterrett Creek a visit on my next trip.

Thanks Tommy, I have been reading the Sterett Creek reports for several years. Thanks again for your help! ML1

I agree with what Jimdog said, I called down to Sterrett Creek last on fri. because I was thinking about coming down there and doing some crappie fishing and they told me I might as well wait til this weekend because they weren't really catching any. That saved me a trip down there. I usualyy go down there pretty often in the summer and really appreciate the honest reports. Thanks Tommy, I'll see you after turkey season. Ben
