Illegal Immigrants
I get tired of hearing about how we ought to let all these ILLEGAL immigrants stay in the US because how they are only doing jobs that nobody else wants. While that is partly true, it is also true that illegals are routinely used as a source of cheap labor to avoid paying citizens a fair wage.

Lake of the Ozarks real estate developer who hired undocumented workers faces tax-related criminal charges
Camdenton, Mo. ? Attorney General Jay Nixon and Camden County Prosecuting Attorney Jim Icenogle today filed criminal charges against the developer of a luxury condominium complex at the Lake of the Ozarks. The developer, Michael G. Schlup, allegedly failed to withhold taxes from his construction workers ? many of whom were undocumented workers ? or remit those payroll taxes and file the appropriate return with the state.
Schlup (DOB - 11/29/56), of Leawood, Kan., faces 12 felony counts of failure to deduct Missouri employer withholding tax, one felony count of failure to file a Missouri employer withholding tax return, and one felony count of failure to pay Missouri employer withholding tax. Schlup?s businesses, Schlup Investments Inc. and Plaza Gardens on the Lake Inc., were involved in the construction of the Plaza Gardens on the Lake condominium complex located near Sunrise Beach.
?These are serious allegations of someone profiteering at the expense of taxpayers, Missouri workers and law-abiding businesses,? Nixon said. ?Those who evade tax responsibilities by not deducting or paying taxes and by paying workers under the table have an unfair and illegal advantage over those businesses that work hard and play by the rules. The playing field for businesses needs to be level.?
The allegations against Schlup cover the first several months of 2005. Nixon?s office began its investigation after learning of reports of one worker death and several serious worker injuries occurring at the Plaza Gardens construction site. Nixon said his office has reason to believe that as many as 30 to 35 undocumented workers may have been working at the site at any one time.
A probable cause statement filed with the charges says that Schlup paid his workers in cash and deducted no withholdings from the wages. Employees at the site worked from 60 to 70 hours per week, according to the statement, and the undocumented workers were paid between $8 and $9 an hour.
?It is not right to exploit any workers, and those who believe they can get away with these abuses because they have hired workers who are not familiar with our laws need to think again,? Nixon said. ?These practices take advantage of vulnerable workers and place their safety at risk, they depress pay for hardworking Missourians, and they are unfair to the businesses that follow the laws of this state.?
Each count of failure to withhold, report or remit tax is punishable upon conviction by a fine of up to $10,000 and a term of imprisonment of up to five years. As in all criminal cases, the charges against the defendant are merely allegations, and he is presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty in a court of law.

Re: Illegal Immigrants
That's why I liked the bill in the House that would make all illegals felons. They may never get the jail time, or even get deported, but they sure as hel couldn't vote, and that is my big concern with these fuks. They drive pay down, but politicaly they are becomming a very big segment, some say in 20 yrs, they will be the majority in this country.

Re: Illegal Immigrants
I know that immigrants do some of the jobs that some lazy-azzed citizens don't even consider...house cleaning, farm laborers etc.. I realize paying those types of jobs would probably result in an increase in the cost of goods and services, but maybe it would be worth it. On the other hand....maybe if the owners/employers didn't have a readily available cheap work force they would offer a better wage. Some of this may be chicken-and-egg type of argument....but turning your back on a law saying it's good for the country isn't the right way to go about it.
On a side note...I'd like to see work a REQUIREMENT to receive any sort of benefits. Either work in the fields, do community service or something. Maybe if fewer citizens got off their azz and worked, we'd have fewer jobs for the illegal immigrants and less folks sitting on their
sucking up free benefits.

dave - I still can't figure out how the heck illegal residents are allowed to vote anyway. That's voter fraud, period. I'm all for the ID card requirement. It won't stop all fraud, but it's a start.

Re: Illegal Immigrants
Once naturalized they can vote.
The deal is that they bring over some 8 month pregnant mexican girl, take her to the emergency room in the USA, and bang that kid is a US citizen, and Medicade picks up the tab. Then you can't get rid of the parents.
I don't even care if they don't put the illegals in lock up etc. Just don't let them vote until they assimilate, at least some, to our culture.

Yeah, the whole naturalized citizen thing is kind of like the cuban refugee thing. If the feet hit the dirt/beach, they are pretty much here to stay.

Re: Illegal Immigrants
I really do wish the National Guard had been calld down to that LA riot, and pushed them greasy beaners back over the boarder.
Any type of effort like that would have had them scurrying away like bugs, and you can bet they wouldn't be to anxious to draw attention to themselves again.

Re: Illegal Immigrants
There was a good article on the cover of USA today about this in the 30's. Many of the deported were US citizens or their children were. Kind of did the same thing to the Japs in WW2. I am not for the illegals but if most of us would not be here if it weren't for immigration. I am a first generation American and I know I wouldn't. No easy answer to this one in a nation of immigrants.

Exactly what Rafe said.
LR - This is a nation of laws, first and foremost. It's one of the foundations of a "civilized" society. How many of our ancestors were ILLEGAL aliens. This ain't about immigration...we have rules set up to allow LEGAL immigration. This is about ILLEGAL immigration. Breaking our law(s) to get into this country should not guarantee you anything but a swift trip back home.

Re: Illegal Immigrants
Want to stop illegals? Here is how buy their country. As a state there would be no reason to have a border to cross illegally, there would soon be companies going down there to get the cheaper labor IE (Minimum Wage) workers who probably would flock to the doors, all the Mexicans who were in the "now US" would lose their jobs trying to get more pay for the same amount of work they were doing and last but not least the workers in Mexico our 51st state would be paying taxes and social security thus boosting SS up and all for the cost of a weeks stay @ the Hilton.

Charges Filed In Wreck That Killed Ex-Coach
16-Year-Old Charged With Involuntary Manslaughter
POSTED: 1:20 pm CDT April 5, 2006
UPDATED: 9:43 pm CDT April 5, 2006
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Wyandotte County, Kan., prosecutors filed charges Wednesday in a wreck that killed a former football coach at Olathe North High School.
David K. Bassore, 51, of Liberty, was driving home from work Monday on Interstate 35 near the 18th Street Expressway exit when his pickup truck was clipped by a Dodge Neon. Bassore's pickup went off the road, rolling twice before it stopped on its side. Bassore was thrown from the vehicle. He died at the scene.
Prosecutors charged the driver of the Neon, 16-year-old Raul Cabrera, of Shawnee, Kan., with one count of involuntary manslaughter in juvenile court.
Officials said Cabrera is an illegal immigrant, and the judge decided the teen should remain in custody.
The Kansas Highway Patrol is still investigating the fatal wreck, but they suspect Cabrera was drag racing with another car.
KMBC's Maria Antonia reported that Cabrera's mother said her son was not racing; he was being chased by another driver and that he had been followed for several days.
Officials said they are considering charging Cabrera as an adult or upping the charge to second-degree murder.
Vigil Held For Coach
Bassore had recently resigned from his coaching position at Olathe after being at the school a year.
Wednesday night, Olathe students held a vigil for their former coach.
"He'd probably say, 'What are you guys crying over me for? I want you guys to be positive and happy,'" football player Jarod Milo said.
"Really made you feel at home, at school, and made it a fun thing and brought a smile to everybody," student Kim Burnell said. "We just want to get people involved and let them know who he was and if they didn't know him, let them know what a great person he was."
"He loved every player on his team and we loved him back," football player Raymond Due said.

I didn't know Mexico was for sale. You know, if we'd stop sending BILLIONS of U.S. dollars to nation that asks for it and spend more of the UNITED STATES CITIZENS' tax money at home we'd be a whole lot better off too. The U.S. cannot continue to finance the entire world.

Larry Elder
How does Mexico treat its illegals?
http://www.NewsAndOpinion.com | "We can't infringe upon the right of people to move freely within our territory," said Mexican President Vicente Fox during President George W. Bush's recent visit. Earlier, Fox said he stood by the statement he previously made to the BBC: "I dare say that in 10 years, the U.S. will be begging, will be pleading with Mexico to send it workers."
Does Mexico practice what it preaches?
First, Mexico put its military and police forces on its porous, zigzagged, mountainous, crime-ridden southern border with Guatemala. Chiapas ? the South Carolina-sized southern Mexican state that shares the longest border with Guatemala ? is Mexico's poorest, most illiterate state. About Chiapas, one United Nations human rights commissioner said, "Mexico is one of the countries where illegal immigrants are highly vulnerable to human rights violations and become victims of degrading sexual exploitation and slavery-like practices, and are denied access to education and health care."
Typically, when Mexican authorities catch illegal aliens, they place them overnight in a detention center, then bus or fly them back to their country of origin. Despite the fact that Mexico militarized its border and deported 203,128 illegal immigrants in 2004, many illegals get through by bribing corrupt military and police.
Do Mexicans appreciate the way America has allowed so many poor, Mexican illegals to enter the United States? No. According to a recent Zogby poll, 73 percent of Mexicans call Americans "racist"! When asked whether the United States' wealth comes from freedom and "plenty of opportunity to work," 70 percent of Americans agreed, while only 22 percent of Mexicans agreed. Sixty-two percent of Mexicans said America became wealthy because "it exploits others' wealth." While Americans, according to the poll, see Mexicans as hard-working (78 percent), Mexicans think of Americans as racist, intolerant and not very hard-working.
Racist?
Mexico should look in the mirror. According to the Houston Chronicle's Rachel Graves, around the turn of the 17th century, Mexico imported more African slaves than anywhere else in the New World. As a result, tens of thousands of blacks (no one knows for sure ? the Mexican census does not recognize them) live in Mexico, mostly in destitute villages in its poorest states. An estimated 30,000 to 40,000 blacks live in Costa Chica.
How do they fare? According to the Houston Chronicle, many are illiterate, struggling to get a decent education for their children from government schools. One Costa Chica missionary says, "The kids here are considered by their teachers to be largely unteachable." When stopped by the police, Mexican blacks are often instructed to sing the Mexican national anthem to prove their citizenship!
If so many Mexicans consider Americans racist, why do polls show that nearly half of Mexico's inhabitants say that their lives would improve if they could work here illegally?
Intolerant?
America legally accepts about one million immigrants per year, with perhaps as many as 12 million people living here illegally, about half of whom come from Mexico. Many estimate that 500,000 or more people enter the country illegally every year. California Lieutenant Governor Cruz Bustamante is Hispanic. So is the man who holds the powerful position of speaker of the California Assembly. Los Angeles, America's second-largest city, has a Hispanic mayor, and of the 54 members of California's congressional delegation, nine are Hispanic. The former governor of California once proposed granting driver's licenses to illegals. And in California, under some circumstances, an illegal alien can apply for the cheaper in-state college tuition. Many predict the Hispanic governor of New Mexico, Bill Richardson, former Clinton Cabinet member, will run for president.
Not very hard-working?
According to the International Labor Organization, Americans work more than almost anybody in the developed world, including Japan. The average American worked 1,824 hours in 2004, compared with the Spanish at 1,799 and the French at 1,441 hours. The Dutch put in even less ? working 25 percent fewer hours than Americans.
President Bush, against the wishes of many in his own party as well of half of all Americans, makes the reasonable case for a guest worker program that would allow or provide some sort of legal status for those living here illegally. Latino "activists" do that cause harm by staging protests and waving the Mexican flag and demanding their "rights." For example, Juan Jose Gutierrez of Latino Movement USA says, "We think that the right thing to do is to grant full rights, full equality, under the laws in the Constitution of the United States, to all immigrants, period."
Americans raise legitimate concerns about the competition illegals pose to unskilled labor, and that illegals cut in front of people already waiting in line to get in the country legally. Americans resent expenditures for illegals on education and health care, and problems posed by some who commit additional crime in America. Illegals' attitude of entitlement helps to explain the growing anger Americans feel toward illegal aliens. Students leaving high schools, waving Mexican flags and chanting "Si se puede" do President Bush ? and their "cause" ? no favor
