Acorns

How is the akern crop shaping up in your areas? Looks to be few and far between in the places I hunt.

Surprisingly, there's a lot at the Tick Farm. I haven't cut any open to see if they have much meat, but there seems to be a lot of acorns.

Cedar county seems barren of them...

I think it is good. But, you cannot even begin to compare it to last year. I think that was something along the lines of a 100 year flood or something. I hear the red oaks are more plentiful, but I have been seeing some pretty good drops around the white oaks as well.

The Tick Farm is in Barton County, not 30 miles from where you hunt, 2Tall. There's a buttload of them. Also seeing more pawpaws than in at least 5 years.

Not as good as last year, but there are still some hot trees.

There's one little doe that keeps coming to the front yard between 11am and noon to get fed up on them.

It's hard to compare the abundance of red oak acorn crops from year to year to white oak acorns, since it takes 2 years for the red oak acorns to mature while the white oak acorns mature annually.

Here are some pictures from a red oak in my back yard.

The acorns seem to be pretty healthy, too.

Seems to be OK down on the frm in Pulaski CO. One of the 5 white oaks along our east pasture is full, but th erest that all dropped last year are empty. The farm I am hunting up here in Cole Co. is absolutely full. They are dropping like crazy, and the deer are hitting them pretty hard it seems.

Tons & tons of acorns at the Tick Farm. There are some places that there are more acorns on the ground than leaves. Deer are eating them like crazy. I saw over a dozen deer each day I was up there & they were almost all walking with their mouth on the ground, hoovering up the acorns.

My neighbor house sounded like it was being bombarded Saturday with all the acorns hitting it.

The cabin has a tin roof. You oughtta try to get to sleep in there when the wind's blowing a little. Sounds like a tommy gun outside the window.

I can relate to that and my neighbor live a little distance across the road from us.
