Gun safety

257STW, and as far as the info goes, nobody know why it blew. Possibly handloaded with the wrong powder. The shooter had bursted both ear drums, stitches in his hand, but otherwise will fully recover.

257 STW???? I'd venture a guess that a less than qualified gunsmith did a rechamber on something he shouldn't have, or that is a custom barrel with some serious issues of weak over stressed steel.

Serious failure to launch.
Carrying a gun isn't about killing.
It's about staying alive.

From what I've heard, not just anybody will chamber the STW cartridges in the TC, because the chamber reaches out too far into where the barrel starts to contour down. This guy found someone who'd do it, and from the reports was just shooting his standard hunting loads, after the season. 110grn accubond over 80+something grains of powder.

You can see in the split in the barrel, just how long the chanber is. Image

Could you imagine if this happened while he was out on stand, or in the back country? He's lucky he's not blind.

A few dabs of gorilla glue and a sheet metal hammer, he will be back in bidness.

Hammer it to fit & paint it to match.

I wonder if there is some liability on the part of the gunsmith on something like this. I am not familiar with this cal. gun, but that there is splodid.
It's wierd to me that people get so crazy on wildcat rigs when there are more varieties of rounds coming out all the time that have been commercially tested for safety.
