Gander Mountain...

Post by TobyfromMO » November 1st, 2007, 8:04 pm

Looks like Gander Mountain may be moving into Jeff County. Should it all come together the store will be located in the now vacant K-Mart store located in Arnold at the intersection I-55 & Hwy 141. There has been no ink to paper as of yet but the deal has been in the works for a long time. Gander Mountain representatives are meeting with Arnold City Administrators tonight. Jones Reality has already begun development of the property but word is Gander Mountain wouldn?t begin internal store renovation until early 2008.

Gander is a third rate sporting goods store. Which is really good for a fourth rate location like Jefferson county.

There are no pawn shops in LJ. You have to head into the city for something that upscale.

But we all have doublewides, unlike Jeff county.

Thanks for the info Toby. Living in that area it is good news we need a decent sporting goods store.

Don't you already have Dunn's and Denny Dennis's sporting goods stores?

Dunn's is not exactly close to me by any means. Denny Dennis is the last place I would personally call decent but that is my opinion. My next door neighbor just spent six months waiting for a gun safe from DD because they couldn't get a big enough order for the manufacturer We also have Dick's, Bass Pro, Cabela's, Gateway Outfitters and some others.

I personally like Gander and I feel like the are a decent mix between the Mom and Pop type store and Bass Pro. Their prices are fair and there selection is pretty good. Of course that being said I have only been to a couple of their stores.

Yes. Dunn's in Pevely and Denny Dennison's in Fenton...both of which I would agree with Dave as being 3rd rate sporting goods stores. Yes they have been around a long time and have grown from small "Mom and Pop" shops but I can't hardly stand going into either one of these places. They have so much crap jammed into their small buildings it hardly organized and more than ? the time they don?t have what you?re looking for.

Originally this location was the chosen spot for the new Cabela?s but that all fell through.

Toby, I think third rate for DD is nice and I agree Dunn's has way too much in a really small space.

I am glad that they didn't put Cabela's there though.

I was sort of being facetious; I thought about including the One Stop Boat and Motor on 67 as well. Image

I agree that the Dunn's in Pevely is jam packed compared to their location at Cave Springs. I haven't been to DD's in a long time; I had heard that they were slow on ordering guns but they did have a few things I couldn't find anywhere else.

One thing about the location in Arnold- I'd sure hate to see the daily traffic jams adding Gander Mountain will cause, at least initially. That area is already horrible for traffic!
