Youth Season?

Post by Limbshot » October 28th, 2008, 3:31 pm

Anybody taking a youth out this weekend? I am taking at least one of my nieces and maybe two, depending on how the other feels at the range. Should be a pretty godo weekend to get them out there, wouldn't mind it being a little cooler, but what are you going to do? It will probably be better for them if it is a little warmer. Hope to be posting some pics in here on Monday. Good luck to anybody going.

Josh is 15 and this will be the last season he can do the Youth Hunt. I got my firearms tag for the first time in 5 years just so I could take him, because he wanted to go. The only day he would be able to go would be Sunday since he has a swim meet in Springfield on Saturday. Now he's decided he wants to stay home Saturday night and have a couple friends over and watch horror movies all night.

Maybe I'll take Garner Dean. He's 6 years old and never shot anything bigger than a .22. That would be interesting. He certainly wouldn't hesitate to blow the livin' batsnot out of a deer. :rotfl:

Well good luck if you go Jason. Has Josh ever shot a deer? I know he has killed a turk or two. I think you are going to have a blast when Garner gets older!!!

Craig, I am not surprised that a child of yours would already have a fake I.D. seeing as how they have to be at least 6 to have a tag, I figured that is the only way you pulled it off :jmplgh: .

So now Josh has decided to hunt on Sunday. I guess we'll leave the house around 5:00 Sunday and whack a doe by 8:00. Another guy and his son will be there, too, unless he tags out Saturday.

Good job. He's starting kinda late. Garner bagged a 145 inch 10 point when he was 2 1/2.

Josh gave up at noon. Didn't hunt Saturday because of a swim meet. Hunted 6 hours today. He said he was tired. Jeez.

My niece got close to tagging a 18 month old 6 pointer with no brow tines Saturday morning. HAd him drinking out of the water hole at 25 yards, but couldn't get the cross hairs to sit still long enough for a shot. Had a few other opportunities at the same deer before he finally walked off unscathed. She decided she didn't want to go out Sunday morning, so that was it. The weather sucked, would have preferred about 20 degrees cooler!!!

That's what I'm worried about with my daughter. I've let her shoot the youth .22 a lot, but she's just not quick or confident enough to shoot a deer in any timely sort of fashion. We'll keep working on it though since she wants to hunt. She even asked for camo for her b-day. She's right handed, but left eye dominant, so that causes another problem too.

Part of the problem with the 10yr old is that she is very small for her age. She has issues with the youth .22 being to big for her. I just don't know what gun I can have her use to kill deer, being as small as she is. I'm having her shoot left handed too, so that limits the choices even more.
