No Trout Opener Talk?

Post by Tigerhaze » February 19th, 2009, 9:59 am

I realize there are only a few of us posting, but figured RB would be gearing up for the trout opener.

One observation- I went to Rolla Monday and Tuesday and the Gasconade and Little/Big Piney Rivers were WAY up. We haven't gotten as much rain here in KC I guess, so it was a little suprising. I would imagine that if we continue to get rain, that could really affect the opener.

One of my buddies in St Louis says they've had a bunch of rain this winter. Its been dry as heck here on this side for most of the winter.

The dry weather here near KC has been a blessing for me- I can get a lot of earthwork done right now.

I have been on hiatus since last year. The trout forum is now officially opened. How many are going to make the opener? I know some of the old CCGC boys are headed to Taney this weekend. I think it is a combo trout trip and shawl exposition.

Wont hit the opener. Going on a hog hunt that weekend. Going to try and get down there March 6th.

I have a week on Taney starting March 30th so can't see fighting the crowds. Our annual trip is usually only 5 days but two of us have made it a whole week. Can't wait to get down there and fish. We practice strict C and F fishing methods

catch and fry.

DMR, I think the only fly's they handle on that trip have zippers. But I did hear that they knit their own shawls.

Don't be giving the jig and fly tiers a hard time.

I tie some stuff that kills, and there's nowhere else in the world you can get anything like it......without paying $2.25 each. :smokin:

Trout talk'

I spent last week tying some trout jigs, hoping the bug would bite. It’s there, I suppose, in a knawing sense though. I just could not get past the cold, snow and potential opener crowd. There was a day, I would have gone with no hesitations. Older, wiser or lazier… I dunno for sure.

‘Give me a week or so

Definitely would have been a rough opener- downright cold Sunday!

I went once with my dad when the temp was 5 above. That was enough. Been to Meramec a bunch of times when it snowing. It always seems more crowded on those days. The other fishermen must think " every else will puss out and I'll have the park to myself!". They (and I) were wrong every time.

RB, most likely the ladder. I would hate to admit I pussed out over cold and snow.

Warmouth, I may have been one of those that pussed out.. But do not tell RB.
