Horns or Groceries
Horns or Groceries
There has been the usual pre season discussion on some of the boards, not necessarily this one, about the trophy hunters vs the meat hunters. Since we don't have a polling option what is your opinion: do you hunt for horns or groceries? Post your opinion and why, there is no wrong answer here.

It is all about the antlers for me. Oh, and screw those sum-bitches that say they would pass on a 160" 3.5 year old instead to kill a 130" 5.5 year old. I think they are lying through their mother fornicating teeth.

I agree with that.
A guy should take a couple does for every buck he kills for management, food, and fun reasons. Hunting for a big rack is more exciting imo.

Re: Horns or Groceries
Why can`t you be both? I have one spot where I target trophy sized bucks, but under the right conditions I will kill a fawnling to eat, and to sharpen my acute, natural, blood-thirsty, killer instincts. On my father-in-laws farm, small bucks get a free pass. Anything without headgear is in serious trouble.

But it was a long time ago, and it was just that one day.

I need a place like that 170. I could whack 3 or 4 does and put some meat in the freezer. But, I am very protective of deer around the HFA. I keep hoping MOdoekiller will invite me to hunt with him. No such luck thus far.

You need to get rid of some does on the HFA Snake.

Re: Horns or Groceries
A few years ago I would have agreed with that. Nowadays, everyone else is doing it for me. It wouldn't hurt me to kill a few, but, if the wife or FIL wish to shoot one, I just as soon they do it.

Hell I'm still waiting for PoisonSnake to let me hunt the HFA for the bushhogging.
Groceries for me...unless of course I'm hunting the HFA, then I'm all about the horns.

Dude - You saw some of those big bucks he had penned ....uh, I mean roaming free untethered over there. Even that small one he showed us is enough to turn a diehard grocery hunter like me into a knuckledragging antler hunter.
