Weekend Deer Movement…
I got a chance to get out twice this weekend (Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning) and boy, were the deer on the move. I never released an arrow but saw a bunch of deer.
Saturday afternoon…I jumped two from under my stand location on the way in. This particular spot is so thick and nasty, filled with briars, you can’t help but sound like a truck going in…i.e. the reason I only enter/hunt this area during daylight hours. While sitting, I had two different opportunities. Each time a pair of doe got to within 25yds but just wouldn’t take those last few “death steps” into a shooting lane. Several times I sat watching random deer passing by out of range. Again, so thick many of them I only caught a glimpse of.
Sunday morning…different spot. Again, no arrows shot but I sat 4 straight hours with deer in front of me. I again jumped a few from the immediate area as I walked in. Prior to legal light I had a deer pass within 20yds. Guessing it was a buck as it was alone and of fair body size…though all I could actually see was a dark walking blob. Then, from legal light until about 10:30 I watched groups of doe pass by at 50yds all morning long…one after the other…down the same trail. Needless to say I’ll be sitting closer on my next morning hunt. By 10:30 I had enough. I climbed down and headed off a small group as they came down the same path. I made my way to a wet weather run-off ditch about 20yds away from where they would pass. As they approached, I got so close but it didn’t happen. I was down on one knee tucked in behind a tree. I came to full draw, then…where did they go…why did they stop? I then played “peek-a-boo” around the tree trunk with about 4 sets of eyes for what seamed like forever. They stood there until I could no longer hold at full draw. They never blew, never stomped, nothing. They just turned around and walked off.
Wished I could bagged a few of them but it was still fun.

Re: Weekend Deer Movement…
I saw no turkeys in the 1 full day & 2 half-days I hunted. I did take the bow out in the frosty Sunday morning and grunted in a deer but it saw me before I could get a good look at it. Saw 3 deer Saturday while turkey hunting and 1 deer Sunday.

One day, long, long ago, there lived a woman who did not whine, nag, or bitch.
But it was a long time ago, and it was just that one day.

I was trying to take a picture of a beautiful butterfly and…well…I accidentally dropped my camera. I hope Limbshot likes this one.

Re: Weekend Deer Movement…
Sounds like you are definitely in them Toby. Good luck this weekend if you head out. We will be heading out Saturday morning, and if all goes right, I will have at least one turkey whacked, and maybe a deer!
You boys aren't right, btw Toby where is it that you are hunting that close to the ocean, since that it all I really saw in that pic you posted!
