Re: Screw Deer
Man, I have never been, but I cannot deny it sounds like an absolute blast! One thing is for sure, I'd have to do a lot of work to get myself ready for something like that!!! Maybe someday. I get excited to hear a turkey gobble, I can just imagine hearing one of those beasts bugle!

Re: Screw Deer
I'm glad you had a good time, Dave.
Something tells me that the first time a shooter buck walks by your boring-ass Mo. tree stand this fall, your initial reaction will not be wanting to puke. Adrenaline is adrenalie. It doesn't recognize state lines.
I'll guarandamntee you that there are dudes in N. Mex. that dream of coming to the midwest to kill a big whitetail.
It's good to hunt new places, it's also good to come home.

Re: Screw Deer
Thanks fella's. And congrats to TTN again on his elk. It sounds wierd, but I was looking forward to packing one out, just to see what it takes.
I had no idea what I was getting into, and am going to have to fight tooth and nail to get back out there. The little lady of the house is all sorts of pissed off over it.

Re: Screw Deer
We had that discussion last night Triton, and it took a while with no concessions yet.
Also, you would not have believed how much wood cutting was going on up on that forest service road. Any down tree is open for harvest to the public, and the public was getting theirs right and left. Why some jackass wants to fill his Mazda 4 banger 4 foot high over the bed and work his way down 24+miles of mountain road escapes me.
Chit, cut the stuff 14 miles up the gravel road and save what shocks you have left.

Re: Screw Deer
Good stuff Dave. I`m glad to hear you had such a great hunt. This may sound goofy to some of you, but I left part of my soul in the Rockies back in 1991. I have said, ever since the day we left there, that I had to go back. You did a great job describing an almost undescribable hunting experience. My only regret is that I never got to hear a bull bugle. Maybe someday, if life quits throwing me so damned many hard sliders, I`ll get to return.
btw...I killed this cow within 15 minutes of beginning my very first morning hunt. I remember thinking that if it was going to be this easy maybe I better pass her. A piece of crap Barner fall-away rest cost me a nice 5x5 bull. I only saw two more elk the next 9 days.

One day, long, long ago, there lived a woman who did not whine, nag, or bitch.
But it was a long time ago, and it was just that one day.

Re: Screw Deer
Great pic Tony. I was pretty sure after my first day encounter that I would have other chances, but even though I hunted harder and smarter than that first day, it never happened. I was damn close to elk, but they are masters at that hide and seek game.

Nice cow I70 and the pic is really neat, but what is it with the hat......kind of reminds me of another hat on another hunter...
I think lee marvin had one kind of like that on a movie I watched

Re: Screw Deer
I knew posting that pic would get a stupid response from you. My workout routine, getting ready for the mountains, included shooting my bow, and packing my gear. I was in shape back then MOBlowme. I still wear those old army surplus camo pants all the time too.

I'm digging the vintage TreBark. That is my kind of camo. MONewKidOntheBlock probably doesn't even know what that chit even is.

If I could find a heavy wool sweater or button up shirt in that pattern I'd be happy as a pig in chit.
That fleece windsheer stuff is not too shabby either.

I still have the fleece jacket, pants, and gloves Dave. Haven`t worn them in years. You want `em?
