170: I've blown right through the shoulder using Spitfires. Then, I was shooting 74 pounds, 2315 XX78s, and TriLocs, and I hit the shoulder on a fawn and got zero penetration. So, there you have it. Don't doubt what I tell you good student. I speak the truth.

I agree on your assessment of the rut up to now PS. The scrapes are starting to dry up, and I saw two decent bucks up trolling mid day yesterday. I haven't seen any hard chasing, but it ain't far off.

Hell, you're probably going to shoot that same deer next week, or in gun season. You just put an aiming dot on him.

Look into it.

I saw 4-5 decent sized scrapes yesterday during some mid afternoon scouting. Only one was still what I would call hot. The two biggest scrapes, one of which was about the size of the desk I'm sitting at, looked like they hadn't been seriously worked over in 36hrs or so.

When scrapes start going unchecked, that means the bucks have does that are interested in copulation, Craig. Google that chit so you can come back with a knowledgable response.

Well, I'm feeling much better today although I wish this weather would change. This moon and the warm temperatures suck. But, it sure is nice sitting out there getting a suntan.

A couple of nights this week I have considered sitting out there and getting a moontan.

Just hunted until noon yesterday, and then did some checking on a few different spots until 3. Saw a shit ton of deer.

I should have shot an old doe in the ass yesterday morning, but chickend out at the last minute.

Boiler room was blocked by cedar branches. Her butt was wide open though. Should've done it. :boozer:

I guess our area is like Craig's. We just had scrapes open up this past weekend, before that, we had no activity. Those scrapes are currently highly active, but probably won't be much longer.

Guy's, what Mealy Mouth means is the scrapes in his are dry up when he stops pissing in them. WM heed MOC's advice and go out and hunt. don't shoot squirrels or watch butterflies forking.

I'm seeing different chit than you guys then.

Been out twice in 4 days. That's flat burning it up for me this year. Chit, I'll have to take a break if I keep this pace up.

I'll be after it again tomorrow.

Sitting in a stand before daylight, and seeing deer at some point while in said tree stand.

Also, what have you been hunting for lately RB, hemorrhoid cream?

Soon as you knotheads get done with your pissing match, maybe PS will have a chance to get a post in updating us on his progress....or lack thereof....and such....

Rainbow is correct. What could have been my best season ever is going down as possibly being my worst ever. First of all, the mess with shooting at a walking deer and hitting him in the shoulder. At least he wasn't bothered much by that ordeal.

Then...., comes Saturday morning. For those of you that know, I never get a shot at the HFA during the first weekend of rifle season. Well, this year the wife and FIL let me in there and I decided to carry a rifle. To start things out, I had a flat tire to begin the morning. I also misplaced my watch. Well, those two issues were solved later in the day. So, no big deal there. But, at 6:35 that morning, I was sitting on my stand and here comes a big deer chasing a doe. And...., I mean chasing. I could not stop the deer initially. When he finally did stop, he was behind a big sycamore tree. Then, he takes off again and I am on him. I shot him and I was pretty sure he was hit. Approximately 75 yards away. I went and found blood and tracked him for about 50-75 yards. Then, I backed out and went to get the tire fixed. So, I come back about 4 hours later and take up tracking this deer. I know where he is headed so I was pretty sure things would be OK. By the looks of the blood, I was thinking liver and maybe one lung. Pretty sure it wasn't gut shot. So, I trail the deer about 300 yards and lose the blood. I end up backtracking about 3 hours later and I find that he had headed up the hill where I lost blood initally. I then find where he had bedded down. He was within 150 yards of a road unfortunately. I suppose I pushed him out of his bed but I never saw the deer get up. I guess I should have waited another 3 or 4 hours to take up trailing this deer. So, there you have it. I've not hunted since. I'll get out agains tomorrow evening maybe.
