Starting to
Starting to
loose sleep in the anticipation of the upcoming season. Double checking supplies and mentally making notes on the three lists: need list, want list and the almighty wish lists..

BornBad - Dude you need to get ya some summertime hobbies and activities. There are golf balls to hit, fish to catch, claybirds to shoot, and a host of other manly activities that will keep you from jonesin' for the deer hunts...
When I think of September deer hunts, I think of Mosquitos, ticks and gallons of sweat. I envision sitting in my stand saying to myself, "What the %$^& was I thinking? It's 92 degrees and I just lost a pint of blood to the mosquitos and a quart of sweat getting to the stand..."

Re: Starting to
Guarantee you, I'll be out there before sun-up on 9/15 - skeeters, chiggers ticks and poison ivy be damned!
But this kinda got me to thinking - There is a rifle season this year mid october. How do you think this will effect bow season, with the early season pressure and all. I don't have a problem with most of the new regulations, but the October rifle season kinda sucks, IMHO. I always split my bow season into two "sub-seasons". Pre rifle and post rifle. Now I'm gunna have three sub-seasons - pre early season, middle season, and post late season...

I think it is bullshit. That is what I think about it. Dumbest damn thing I have ever heard. I'm so freaking pissed about it I can't even see straight.

Good points JimDog. Too bad you have associated yourself with the likes of WAS. Effectivly ruining any credability to your observation.

This early season could be good. It seems that just before the previous opener ( Oct 1rst ), bachelor groups tend to start breaking up and changing their patterns. I notice this every season in a certain hog lot where they are seen like clockwork every August.

Re: Starting to
its for does only, not really that big of a deal imo.
infact if you live close to one of the big cities, its a good thing. too many deer in the suburban settings, hell i've had 12+ deer in my backyard before, its not safe on the roads around here.

Oh I got summer activities; mostly sniffing the sweat off the hand that scratches my jockitch while sitting on my hot boat fishing...
Naw, just excited - my 2nd year at bow season

Re: Starting to
That is one of the reasons that i am so excited about the early opening. My back yard backs up to a big field, and I see deer back there daily. In fact, I came to within 10 yards of hitting on on my bicycle last night.
Last year, starting about mid august thru late september, there were 3 nice bucks that I saw every night about 30 minutes before sunset. I could set my watch by them. They would appear under some trees in a corner of the field and just rub their
and graze around. Right before dark, they started working down the tree line. Around about the last week in September, they quit appearing. I spotted them after that, but always solo, and with much less frequency.
I have two nice eight pointers that work the fence line in my back yard every morning before 6 am. They are identical. They just casually graze along. Hopefully they will be in that pattern on the monring of the 9/15.

Sounds like you might need some help that afternoon. I will graciously accept the honor helping you drag him out. While I'm waiting for you to harvest your buck. I might as well sit over in that coner with my bow.
