Are you talking morels or an earlier spring variety?

If Morels, why in the hell would I do that? Didn't you see Micus' post(s) about ground temperature? Didn't you see the thread about the earliest anyone has found them? I may start looking early...but not THIS early!! Exactly how warm was it at your house this past weekend? Image Image

I guarantee's you I'll be out there before they actually come up....the weather gets the best of me every year. But normally I start hunting south (anywhere from Lake Ozark to near Spfld) and work my way north (clear up to around Trenton). Even got some plans to hopefully get east. For the life of me, I couldn't see going TO the city to find mushrooms...but damn if someone didn't show me the error of my ways! Image I may post up when I find some and if you're real lucky I might even tell you where. You know, I'll give you good directions like "east", "south" or "a little north"! Helpful SOB, aren't I? Soil temp. @ 1 p.m. 43? in O'Fallon. Sorry. I'm thinking I'll head to my Jacks Fork camp in two weeks and check things there.

Need to take a cooler, got have something to put those shrooms in. Never fails every year there is a guy sits on the coner of some of the biggest intersections in town and sells Morels. Fetchin close to $50 a pound for em. You can get $25 bags and $50 bags. S#@$ reminds me of High School Image

Went out "practicin'" today, found fresh tree ears and witches butter and old oysters but no morels. Ground temp.50?-52? St. Charles County. Dutchmans britches, blood root, spring beauties, mayflowers just unfurling.

Went for a pretty good walk today, found one black morel about the size of a thimble. Sure was nice being outdoors!

I found 6 in Barton County that had apparently been frozen last Tuesday or Wednesday when it got down to 29. If it stays as nice this week as what it's supposed to, they'll be popping good next weekend. Let the kids hunt for Easter eggs. I'd rather find mushrooms.

Went out yesterday for about two hours. Found 8 morels. They are not very big and not very plentiful yet. (We're in southern Stone county). My neighbors who are much better at this than I am have found 32 in the last 4 or 5 days. Our photos from previous years "big hauls" all are dated about April 20 thru 28....A few more days things should really get going... Image
