FLW Devil's Lake

Post by ackermannsacre » June 16th, 2005, 7:35 am

Lots of fish being caught, not a single zero-dot-zero in the entire field of 147 for the first day. Our own "Walleye Babe" Juls is starting out well in 28th spot!

Bravo! Good start, Juls. Keep the pressure on those boys. I told you those smoked possum sammiches had down the road benefits!

Juls ended up in 60th, but she DID limit out every day. Just needed some bigger fish.

Attaboy, Juls! (we consider you one of the guys)

I will grant you that "Big Foot" looks like one of the boys, but thre's someting different about Juls....she just don't look like one of the boys! PD you need to get out more often......and lay off that cheese. It's clogging your arteries and affecting your vision.

Thanks Guys!!! PD, I take that as a major compliment Image
since I don't want to be treated any differently than any of the other guys fishing the Tour.
It was a good time at Devils Lake. Unfortunately, my "magic stump", that has produced over 82#'s of fish, is no longer magic. The grass was missing this year, and the lake has erroded the island that was behind it, changing the structure that held my big fish from the past two years. On day three I changed location completely, and got lucky on another spot...even though the fish were smaller, they were in abundance and Edna and I had a great time that day. She did manage to catch a nice 6 pounder in that spot though, and that's what kept us in that new area. Next year I will have to do a lot more searching during prefishing to find another magic stump..lol

Thanks again for the support everyone! It means a lot to me. Image

Juls...is that the same stump you described the day we pre-fished? I remember you telling me about a tournament you fished where you found some hoss walleyes holding on a single tree stump....anyway, congratulations on a good tournament. That Top Ten finish is rapidly approaching!

Trees die, new stumps are created, life goes on. I suppose a person could drag an old tree trunk out on the ice during the winter, weight it down and it would sink when the ice melts.....crappie fishermen do it all the time.

CW, I wish they'd stop doing that. All my chrome Deep Jrs. are hanging on stumps somewhere down in Bull Shoals. Image

Speaking of lures on snags, PD have you heard whether the split rings that are designed to open, work? Image

Yes, I have. Cabela's sells them, and I intend to pick up a couple of packs on the way home. They are some kind of titanium alloy that is matched to your line size. They will open up on a steady pull, leaving the treble hook on the snag, and your big bucks crankbait still on the line to be retrieved. From the looks of the things, they probably stay with the crankbait...good thing, 'cause they are not cheap.
Not sure, but I believe Cabela's gets eight or nine bucks for six of them. At that price, they have to be reuseable.
PD....I am willing to contract out my tournament partner, who is also a scuba diver, who can retrieve said lures for a reasonable commission....say 50-50 split on the retrieved lures. Billy used to do that, but I think he no longer has the diving gear. I keep telling TR we could stock our tackle boxes for the next ten years in one afternoon working the stumps below K Dock and a couple of the timber bluffs.
