whats your limit
whats your limit
Of course everything costs more-but what will you spend for equipt?
I have one 79$ reel but most are under 50,35 for a rod.
I can see going up to 100 for a reel but thats it.I know you get what you pay for but there are some good unit out there that are resonable.

Re: whats your limit
Cook, I use to buy $20 dollar reels (ABU) and about the same amount on the rod. Then three years ago I bought a $70 Shimano and a $70 Bass Pro rod and you can tell the difference (that's all I buy now). My buddy I fish with even has done the same and he's kinda tight. I have never tried a $200 reel and $200 rods, I wonder if there is even more of a difference than the $70 items?

Re: whats your limit
I spend what is necessary and reasonable. If I can't find something alittle cheaper that works great then I will.. I shop around and find what I like and if I do like it I get it. Not really a set price on anything. If it's worth it I'll spend it. But only if I like it.

I don't think I have a rod/reel set up that I have put more than $170.00 in. Most expensive would 'proly be my Shimano bait caster mounted on a 7' flippin stick.
Most of my crank baits are in the $4 - $8 range. My favorite cranks are in the Excalibur series.
plastic baits: I keep em cheap, stick with dark colors.
Worm Hooks: under $10 -usually buy Gamakotsu (sp) or TrueHook (sp).
Every now and then I might spend the extra money for braid line, but I usually opt for a good mono.

Re: whats your limit
I put as much into my baitcasters as I think I need to for my fishing. I paid $200-$250 for the ones I use a lot.

Re: whats your limit
I'm poor so it's $30 Quantum's on Bass Pro Micro-Lites $39 and I wait til the Micro's are on sale for $29 and buy 1 or 2 then. I've only had one of the micro's (u/l) break and I hooked a large carp while crappie fishing. It broke at the joint when he run under the boat.
I've got some higher $ rods on some high dollar reels(for me anyway) that I hardly ever use. These are baitcasters.
I've got several ABU's that I've bought over the years that are scuffed a little, to a whole lot but still work just fine.

Re: whats your limit
I usually stick with the old style ambassadeurs for baitcasting but recently forked out $159.?? for a Shimano Stradic Mgf spinning reel. I am amazed at this reel. It is, bar none, the finest reel I've ever owned. I find myself using a spinning reel more and more since I got the Shimano.
It's on about a $20.00 rod right now but I might "move up" sometime soon to something a little nicer. I'd highly recommend the Shimano reel....

Re: whats your limit
I figure a reel is just a line release and retrieval tool, it ain't no big deal long as it works. Rods are a whole different deal.....I gots all AllStar but it's just cause they was free. Loomis is even better.
I have an MS2TN AllStar spinning rod that if it cost $500 it would be a bargain. Same way with my T40X SJ2, and IM6 SJ2. Yeah, they are old school but they are NICE!

Re: whats your limit
Reels normally $100-$150. Most of my baitcast rods are custom made but I am probably going to switch to some newer technology in the $150-$200 range.
It's only money. How does that go, if you ain't in debt you ain't bassin?
Hell I am looking at a $1,100 lowrance unit.

Re: whats your limit
i try to keep it under a 100 for the whole combo, usually ends up being around 40 - 50 for the reel and some where between 50 and 60 for the rod. but i will never own another reel or rod under 20, just because they only last about 1 year, then need to be replaced. my choice of reels usually are the shimanos and mitchells. i love the copperhead and 300x series reels. my choice of rods are single piece abu garcias. hint, never get the abu reels. they are chit.

Re: whats your limit
I use Shimano reels exclusively. Mostly the Curado, which I really like. I have BPS Bionic blade rods, Falcon rods, and a couple of Loomis rods. Loomis rods are the chit!
They just cost too much for me to totally change over to them. I don't use braided line 'cause I hate it. I don't like the grooves it puts in guides and line rollers.
