The Youth Hunt - successful regardless of harvest!

Post by kfahland » October 31st, 2005, 12:13 pm

Spent two days in the woods with my oldest this weekend. We had a great time - good father/son bonding. Unfortunately, a high percentage shot did not present itself so he was unable to harvest a deer. Now he is looking forward to the regular portion of the season.

Even though we had no luck, two of my nephews who were hunting on our farm this weekend were able to harvest their first deer.

On Saturday afternoon, my 13 year old nephew accompanied by his 19 year old brother dropped a doe at 30 yards with his first shot.

On Sunday morning, my 12 year old nephew, hunting for only the second time with his dad, harvested a button buck with a slug at 20 yards. This deer went about 100 yards, but was quickly recovered.

Seeing the look of pride and pure excitement on these kids faces sealed the deal for me. The youth season is a success!

I spent a couple deerless seasons hunting with my dad. Still had a great time, and memorable hunts. Image

Yeah, Dave, tell them about your first kill! Image

Hunting with my dad was always great. Actually, still is! Image

It's a long story, but basically the deer wouldn't die. If I would have had a hammer with me, I would have tried that too, it couldn't have made it any more gruesome.

Sounds like a great hunt. Image Takin' kids in the outdoors, to hunt and fish, ranks up there with my favorite things to do.
McLintock, great party, but no whiskey. We go home.

No - they were hunting on our family farm near Morrison.
