I just don't get women wanting to go do man chit, but we're going to try it. All she wants is a 10-12 pt buck, so we aren't holding the bar to high for her first gun hunt.

I saw several deer up around Kirksville, so we will head back up there for some more deer. They're as thick as grasshoppers up there, and getting another 10-12pt will just be a matter of her shooting straight, and not getting caught up in some emotional blabbering about why I can't put the cap back on the tooth paste.

Anyway, I'm going to make a killer out of her, and then mount her in the blind, we'll see what the score of the 10-12pt buck is after the deed.

This year, I took Mrs. Hollister rabbit hunting. I figured I'd start her off on small game for a few years before moving her up to turkey. Well, she wanted to take the kids, too, which meant the trip was going to be shorter than I really wanted. Fine, I suppose, since I was mostly wanting to run the dog anyway. Long story short: Mrs. Hollister needed her makeup done before we could leave, 3 yr. old couldn't walk through the grass & briers, 12 yr. old ripped out his pants climbing a fence, Mrs. Hollister pissed & moaned about seeds & crap getting in her shoes. Dog ran great, though. Bottom line is, if she can't keep up with you, it ain't worth taking her.

I dropped both deer I shot with the 257R on the spot. That sucker is scary accurate, and doesn't kick much more than a 243. That gun really impressed me.

LA can shoot too fella's. I've seen her hit chit with a 44 carbine at 125yds offhand. I'm thinking this is going to be an interesting hunt.

I took my buddy Jim to my spot Sunday evening, and he propmtly missed the same doe 3 times. There are plenty of deer running that area, so I'm thinking she'll kill something.

Jud and his crew made me a believer in still hunting during gun season. Those fuggers can't sit still for a minute, hardly ever scout, don't give a chit about scent, they just get in there amoungst 'em, and shoot the chit out of big deer.

When they aren't still hunting, they are doing deer drives, and they kill the chit out of bigg'ens. They prefer to get the deer stirred up and on their feet, and they can flat out shoot moving deer too. They have so much land it doesn't matter where the deer move to, they'll just kill them on that section vs. this section. It's some pretty cool hunting.

I shot a nontyp 11pt, that I had passed on 3 times by Sunday morning. A doe came out at 9, and looked behind her etc., so I got the gun up and ready, the 11pt came busting out of the brush after her, and I nailed his azs about 185yds out. He's a bigger bodied deer than my archery 10pt, but I have bigger racked bucks in my back yard. He has all kinds of character, forked g-2, 3 brow tines, broken drop tine that I didn't count etc., but I honestly wish I had my tag back. Really though, if Hobs or Shawn had shot it, it would be a 140" monster buck, but to me, it was kind of a let down.

I took a film pic from a wally world throw away, and still have 21 pics left. Let me see what LA can kill, and then I'll work on it. I litterally saw a better scoring buck from my kitchen window last night, but I'd never shot a nontyp before, and the shot was so perfect, I've decided to be happy with the kill.



I'm really going to try and get LA a braggin buck. There were some woodlots and drainages that I stayed out of, with intent to drive those areas, but I never got it done or needed to. This weekend, she will be seeing some deer. They may be running by at 30-50yds like their azses are on fire, but she'll see them.
