Central Missouri
A few are finally showing up in Central Missouri. Found about 30 or so last night...some were the big 'uns!

Re: Central Missouri
Damn! I'm glad I'm leaving town Friday!!
Our annual float/fish/drunk is this weekend. Proprietors of the floatin' place kind of like us (we've pretty much been their first $$ of the year for over 16 years now), so they let us do some turk and 'shroom hunting down there. But I'll be back in town Sunday around noon....if you find civilization some time, give me a call (I'll PM #) and maybe we can find a cold one somewhere. Far as the 'shrooms go, they seem to be kind of funny this year. Everything thing we found was up on the hills....'bout 1/2 way up. Nothing in the bottoms or hilltops. What we found seemed to have been around since before the rain
, but were still in good shape. The boy and I are going to go out again this evening, if it's not too nasty. Will let you know how we fare.

I'm glad someone is finding a few. Hunting has been lousy around here. I've been out for a few hours a day for the last four days and haven't found a decent sackful altogether. It's really been tough. The guy who runs Snoddy's store in Boonville says it's been the worst spring he's ever seen for mushrooms in the Boonville area--and he's been around for awhile.

It's been a pretty bad year for me...(I'm just south of Boonville a ways). The weather sure has been up and down...when it was hitting 80', it was too dry and now that we've got rain, it's cooled off.

Re: Central Missouri
I hunted in southern Cooper County yesterday and only found a handful. They were big yellows in OK shape, but they'd been up for a while. I found them on steep, shady banks under dead elms.
Which is really kind of strange. My best explanation for the lousy morel crop is that the weather has been cool and the ground is still too cold. But almost all of the mushrooms that I'm finding are in dark, cool pockets, where the ground is still at its coldest.

Same here. Found a lousy 13 mushrooms to date. I'm looking in the Mo river bottoms an hills in northern Cooper County. Last year you could fill a wal-mart bag full from these spots...this year

Re: Central Missouri
It's a tough year here in Central Missouri ... at least all the places I hunt. Probably have found less than 50 or 75 so far and most of them are gone already. Going to try again this weekend and may head WAY north to see if they got any 'shrooms up there.
