Anybody got a congrats yet?

The 12 year old had a congrat letter in the mailbox when we got home from vacation today.

He will be hunting Smithville Lake - December 15-16

Actually, no. I'm not happy about it either. But, it seems to be the norm year after year. I'm going to send a letter to the MDC regarding managed hunts and complain about the fact of out-of-staters being able to hunt them also. Now that flat pisses me off.

I am confused about your managed hunts. when we pay for our tags it is for the entire state, the doe tags are the only restrictions and they are by DMP by areas. How does your system work? It sounds like you pay to hunt and hope you are picked so you can hunt?!

The hunts are held in areas that are normally no hunting. A lot of them here in the KC area are county parks that may be 3x4 miles with some crops and hardwoods, and the hunts are for population control. Some are doe only, some are 2 does and a buck, etc., the limits, weapons allowed, and rules vary with each property.

A few years ago they shot 400 deer up there by spotlighting. That had to be a sight.

That's good stuff. The deer should all be eliminated from the airport anyway. There is really no need to have the possibility of a deer/plane collision.
