Dilemma...

Post by PoisonSnake » October 5th, 2011, 8:08 am

Got a dilemma here fellows. You see, it generally takes me an hour or two of serious hunting to kill a good buck each year. Sometimes, it takes me a couple weeks to find him, but that story is for another day. This year, I am wanting to set a record. Has to beat 44 minutes of serious hunting. I'm seriously contemplating hammering one from the road right here at the house. I'd say he is a solid 140" deer for sure. The problem is, ifn' I go out and road shoot him tonight, does it beat the record of 44 minutes given that I have been watching him for a couple of months now? :flippa:

The clock starts counting when you have the bow in your hand, or the rifle out of the window.

Hmm, if you are killing him from the truck, technically that is your "stand," so the hunt starts when your donkey hits the seat. Better see him from the house before you start the drive. Either way, your road isn't all that long, I figure you could have an arrow in him in about 3-5 minutes. Also, I recommend you use a bow fishing rig so that you can just reel him in after you shoot him. That will speed up the recovery process.

If you're hunting from the road by your house, you have to start the clock when you walk out your door. If you're hunting more than 10 miles from your house, the clock starts when you exit the truck.....or the arrow breaks the plane of the window.

A little more advice.....since you didnt specify method, I'm just going to assume you're bow hunting since we know you hate all rifle hunters. Two words..... hunting points. Take those damn field points off and put broadheads on and it won't take you 2 weeks to find the deer. I know, it's a little more girly than taking one with field points, but saves work in the long run! Damn traditionalists.

BTW, if you want to be a real man and have something to brag about you need to make your own bow, arrows and knap your own points. We got some nice Osage Orange trees on our place you can have!! :boozer:

Just remember, if you hunt that buck on the morning of daylight savings change (Nov. 6) you gain an hour, so if you schedule your start time right (like 1:59 am) you could technically whack it before you even started hunting. That would be the ultimate record thumb2:
