New SmartPhone App from Conservation Dept.
Some of you may have seen this already - they sent an email out if you're on their distribution list. I already downloaded it, and it's pretty cool. You use your Conservation ID code (from your card, the number you use for permits, draw hunts, etc.) and birthday as your login. From there, it lists all of the licenses you've bought for the current year, as well as the previous year.
You can also look at your licenses, and see the number of telechecks you've done under each tag. You can also purchase tags through the app. The app lets you use your phone to telecheck your kills, too. You can already do this from their website, but this is quicker, and easier.
Right now, you still have to carry a printed-out tag, and you still have to notch it at the time of death. My thoughts are that this app is the first step away from that, however, and that at some point, if this pans out, you can do all of that from a simple app. Unless you're Amish, you already have a smart phone, and most of us keep them in our pockets or backpacks in the field already.

All you thugs and ugly mugs dealing drugs and making noise,
You can kill each other all you want but if you touch my little boys,
You begging for this bullet will be the last thing that you say
before I let my dark side come out to play

New phone, huh? You'll have to see if they offer a Jitterbug version of the app.RB wrote:I saw that email. Getting a new phone so didn't download yet. I have several of their apps their pretty good.

I loaded the app about a month ago. Pretty sweet little program. Easy to use.

I can wear a wig. You can't get younger.
Oh, sorry. I said:
I CAN WEAR A WIG. YOU CAN'T GET YOUNGER.

I must be one of those "Breaking Amish" since I don't have a smartphone but have a flip phone and other "English" conveniences.SAMCRO wrote:Unless you're Amish, you already have a smart phone

Why would someone not have a smartphone? My 12 yr. old doesn't, but that's just because I don't want him to have access to all the internet at any time and any place. A smartphone is a computer in your pocket and is usually as fast as any computer on any network. Get a smartphone, you Luddite.

If you think phones are smart you should see the features of my new Tahoe. Must be a smart truck.

The only problem I have with it is that you have to enter your ID every damn time you log on (unless I am missing something).

The telecheck option on the App is pretty nice. I used it to telecheck my doe.

Re: New SmartPhone App from Conservation Dept.
Smart phones are an albatross especially with the kind of career I have; with them the company expects you to read their e-mails 24/7 and respond to them in real time. Without a smart phone I have plausible deniability in not jumping on a project right away when not at the office. It's not like my phone doesn't have text, photo, or video capability so I am not totally in the stone age.Rafe Hollister wrote:Why would someone not have a smartphone? Get a smartphone, you Luddite.
I think characterizing me as a Luddite is a little harsh- it's not like I am protesting smart phones or destroying them but simply don't see the need to be tethered to the latest high dollar phone and related plan. I just got back from a weeklong trip to Montana with very limited cell coverage and it did not affect my ability to successfully fish, so don't feel deprived by the lack of the latest technology.
